Nh folicular lymphoma

Hi. I have just booked my COVID and Flu jabs for October - I am getting them both together. Anyone have any issues with this. I have never done it before, I usually do them separately, but I am always out of action with COVID for at least 5 days, so my thinking is I will do them both together. I am out of maintenance since February this year after completing chemo, and two years maintenance and now back on watch and wait. Thanks

Hey there @jackalanna, I had the COVID-19 and flu vaccinations together this week, like I did last year, and side effects have been fine for me, although I have polycythaemia vera. Just an achy upper arm where I was injected and some flu-like body aches and headaches. Sorry to read you had strong reactions previously. Always check this stuff with your specialists I’d say, and avoid live vaccines.

Hi. Thanks foryour response. I am hoping I will be ill just once with the two jabs together. I have NH follicular lymphoma and currently after treatment, (finished February this year) was speaking with my haematologist yesterday and she advised me to have the jabs (not necessarily together) because she mentioned that the drug that was administered to me in 2.5 years reacts very badly to COVID…so I feel I have to have it now. My sister who is 84 has multiple medical conditions (although not cancer) has both together and she never feels a thing!!

Ah your lucky sister! My other half barely seems to notice any side effects either. I’m so glad to be able to get the vaccinations. I hope you have milder side effects this year, let us know how it goes.

Hi @jackalanna I have another blood cancer than yours but I have had both the Covid and flu jabs at the same time for the last couple of years since it was offered to me with no side effects.

I believe the vaccine role out in the UK is due to start at the beginning of October, I have booked my appointment.

Look after yourself.

Hi, yes I thought it might be as I spoke to you! It was very interesting I thought. I am doing well thank you, but an end of treatment PET Scan lit up another area of activity in the nasal passages, so been up and down with x rays, scans and MRI’s then a biopsy to confirm it was not another type of cancer, pleased in one way it was still the Lymphoma, but felt very down that it has appeared in an area never shown up before, so I am on active monitoring (well for the rest of life really) now I have another area of concern, this living with cancer ….its not easy, but I am well and that is the main thing. I am glad you are still in active monitoring.

Hi @jackalanna yes, I find every time I have tests they find something completely unconnected with me of concern.

Look after yourself and I am all for active monitoring

Hi @jackalanna — I’ve had the COVID and flu jabs both together and separately, and personally I’ve found having them together works better for me. When I did them separately, I ended up experiencing side effects twice, which meant two rounds of feeling a little under the weather. Getting them at the same time meant just one period of feeling a bit off, and then I was done!

It’s great that you’ve booked them me too later this week just in time for a flight to America next week  Wishing you a smooth experience with the jabs and continued good health on your watch and wait journey.

Good afternoon @jackalanna

Thank you for posting this question of the forum, I’m confident many have had the same circumstance, and may have wondered the very same thing.

I was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in April this year, and have been invited for both Flu and Covid vaccinations.

My Flu vaccination is on Saturday the 18th of October and my Covid is on Tuesday the 21st of October. Do date I have had both at the same time (one in each arm) and last time I had them a few days apart. No significant side effects were experienced but I appreciate everybody is different.

What’s really comforting is that advice and guidance is out there and i keep in regular contact with my key worker and / or GP.

I hope everything goes okay.

Take good care of yourself.

Mike.
