We received completely devastating news today that my husband has relapsed at +100 days Stem cell transplant for Acute myeloid leukaemia (Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)). He is 38 years old. His team have told us they will start the Aza/Ven protocol from Monday and if he gets to remission then try DLI. He had a bone marrow biopsy at +56 days and all was fine and chimerism 99% no sign of Leukaemia and at +100 days blasts are 40% and chimerism is 91%. Needing so much strength right now. Just looking for any positive stories please with anyone who has relapsed like this and had this protocol now? We have been told they wouldn’t offer a 2nd transplant.
Hi @Roops, welcome to the Forum, though I’m sorry about the circumstances that bring you here. My heart really goes out to both of you, and it’s understandable that you need support and positivity.
There are people in our community who’ve faced post-transplant relapse (even if not in exactly the same situations) and I really hope some of them see your post and feel able to share what their experience was like. You might also want to scroll to the bottom of this thread and look at the ‘Related’ topic suggestions.
If you or your husband would like some extra support, I’d encourage you to call or email our Support Line - the nurses there understand how heavy this moment feels, both medically and emotionally. They’re there for you as much as for your husband. The number is 0808 2080 888, and the email is support@bloodcancer.org.uk.
Though you’re not new to this (or indeed perhaps because you’re not new to this), maybe our webpage on ‘Looking after yourself when someone you love has blood cancer’ would be useful, too.
Take care, and do keep posting if it helps - we’re here to support you.
