@Unclejack Gosh you’ve certainly had your fair share of contact with medical staff recently! Sorry to hear that you’ve got an infection in your calf but at least you’ve got antibiotics now & they will sort it for you I’m sure. I have been very prone to spraining both my ankles in the past, so I can sympathise how painful ankle sprains can be, let alone an infection also
It’s only since I’ve started Pilates in the last 2 years that they’ve become stronger & fingers crossed I haven’t sprained them since! Here’s to your continued recovery. Take care & best wishes to you x
@Sisi I know what you mean about being a PA to the husband! Your support is amazing. Your husband is in good hands and I wish him well.
My husband had a very positive appointment at Kings (on his own
) where they echoed what was said here locally. Go live your life! He had more bloods taken and I must say, I’m very impressed with the NHS mychart app, as his results arrived on the app today. So next week we have our teams call with Dr Wiseman (I will defo be there for that!) and then hernia op!
@Unclejack hoping the antibiotics kick in quickly and you start to heal. So grateful for this forum and the support we give each other. Take care all x
@Logsie Thankyou for your lovely message. I think we need to up our PA rates to our husbands ![]()
I am sooo pleased to hear your husband had such a positive meeting with Kings. They are fabulous there. We haven’t had direct contact with them regarding Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) but my elderly mother had surgery there 2 yrs ago for a badly shattered ankle. Amazing staff. I’m also pleased to hear you’ve got your appt with Dan Wiseman too! We were very uplifted after seeing him. We’re certainly keeping people busy with messages on here! I so appreciate everyone’s support
Best wishes for the hernia op & keep us posted! xx
Hi @Logsie
So pleased your husband’s lone appt at Kings went well and that they were in accord with your local clinicians. Always gives you more confidence when you get an additional opinion. Hope the call with Dan Wiseman goes well next week -especially as you won’t need to show any ID! ![]()

@ChrissyD @Erica @Lyndam @Unclejack @Logsie So…update on my husband. He had another minor stoke incident yesterday. So we are now in St George’s hospital, where we shoud have been for appt / scans tomorrow! Incident yesterday was very similar to last time, all very quick & he seemed his normal self with 10 mins. Luckily the ambulance guys agreed to take him to St George’s, seeing as that’s where we’d been referred to. They are closely monitoring him & ensuring he has bed rest, to help blood flow. Drs are discussing when to do the procedure tomorrow. So hopefully soon! Fortunately my son jumped on the train from Manchester to be with me, so he’s a great support. Hope all is ok with everyone? I’ll keep you posted ![]()
Hi @Sisi
Oh you poor things.
So worrying -probably more so for you witnessing the stroke than your husband who seems to come out of it quite quickly? That appointment tomorrow and carotid artery clearing procedure clearly cannot come soon enough. Might he stay in St George’s overnight to be monitored? So glad your son is down to support you both.
Thinking of you all. Take care ![]()

Oh @Sisi I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this scare again. You are now in the right place and if the artery clearing procedure is being pushed for tomorrow, hopefully no more scares like this will happen. Please refuse to leave until it’s sorted! So glad your son is with you both.
Wishing your husband all the best, and you take care too. Keep us posted xxx
@ChrissyD Yes, sadly don’t think I’ll ever unsee his mouth droop like that again!
Just so pleased we’re at St George’s now. And yes, he’s on the stroke ward now, so we’ve been sort of fast tracked! Drs will decide tomorrow when the procedure will be. Thanks for your love & best wishes ![]()
@Logsie Thankyou so much for your kind words. Don’t think the procedure will actually be tomorrow but the Drs hopefully will make a decision then. And it will be soon. He’s definitely in the right place now. Will keep you posted ![]()
Oh @Sisi what you have both gone through in the last week. Glad your son is with you and that your husband is definitely in the right place.
Your husband is being looked after please try to look after yourself too you must be physically and mentally drained.
Please do keep us posted
@Erica Thank you dear Erica for your lovely message. My son is looking after me. He’s a real star
Will keep you posted ![]()
Oh Sisi, sorry to hear this. He is in the right place now and I hope he is soon sorted and home with you. Take care of yourself in all this as I know when my brother had a stroke it took its toll on his wife as well. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
@Lyndam Thankyou for your kind words. My son is doing a brilliant job of supporting me. Feel very blessed ![]()

Hi Sisi
Very unpleasant situation. At least you are in the right place. Hopefully like myself MRI revealed no serious damage. I have some damage NOT related to my 2 TIa events. But the damage was so minor haven’t a clue when or how it happened. I hear st.Georges hospital is a excellent hospital so your in good hands. My experience of Tia was odd. No prior headache just ridiculous confusion. For example I was drinking a cup of tea first time, and threw the dregs on kitchen worktop, couldn’t remember were to put cups and saucers etc. As you say it lasted a few minutes and then everything normal. My hospital checked everything and no reason found, carotids clear, heart perfect etc.
Just one of those things I suppose. Anyway I am sure the medics will put things right TIAs are quite common. This forum is so important for highlighting everyones health experience especially with the quite rare Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML).
Wishing you both the very bestwishes.
Unclejack
@Unclejack Thank you for your best wishes & glad any damage that you had was minor. My husbands MRI showed tiny little strokes but there doesn’t seem to be have been any noticeable damage. He just needs that carotid artery cleared ,asap! I’m hoping we’ll hear more news today as to when. Take care & hope your calf & ankle are on the road to recovery now. Best wishes ![]()
@Erica @ChrissyD @Unclejack @Logsie @Lyndam Hello all. Just a quick update on my husband. So…after 3 days of monitoring at St George’s hospital he was discharged yesterday. Annoyingly we still haven’t got date for the carotid endarterectomy but we should get confirmation any day, hoping it could be next week 12th or 13th. Apparently they don’t perform the procedure too soon after an ‘event’. So here’s hoping!
Also had confirmation that the two recent ‘events’ were infact TIA’s. With the MRI showing 2 small silent strokes that must have happened in the past that we knew nothing about!
As you can imagine he didn’t get much sleep in the ward, so is enjoying being home. And….its also his Birthday today, so it’s been great making a fuss of him!
I’m off for an afternoon nap now….last few days have been exhausting. Hope all is well with everyone? Best wishes xxx
Thanks for the update @Sisi and I agree there is nothing like our own beds.
I do not make a patient patient when awaiting appointments arriving.
Please do wish your husband a very happy (different) birthday.
Glad to hear that you are having an afternoon nap too.
Look after yourselves and celebrate
Hi @Sisi
Glad to hear your husband’s home to celebrate his birthday
today and have a decent night’s sleep too! I luckily haven’t much experience of hospital stays but I’ve heard tales of how difficult it is to sleep! Partly other patients and also because the nurses wake you up at all hours to do checks and at a ghastly hour at dawn’s crack for a cuppa or breakfast you didn’t really want until several hours later! ![]()
He’ll be really well cared for by you at home. You’ll need some naps to redress your sleep deficit too! ![]()
Hope you hear about a op date soon and that he doesn’t have any more TIA events! I guess you’ll be watching him like a hawk until it’s done?!
Wish you husband a Happy June Birthday from me. My birthday is in June, as is my mother’s, my brother’s, my grandma’s, my daughter’s and daughter in law (on the same day), my eldest granddaughter (born on my 65th birthday!), and my son’s and d-I-l’s wedding anniversary is on my birthday too! I was born on my Dad’s birthday and he was a twin! So June is a busy time for events in our family. Best month of the year for a birthday!

Hi @sisi. Good to hear your husband is home. Hope they don’t keep him waiting to long for the procedure. Take care of both of you, and wish him a happy birthday.
@Sisi
Hi Sisi, amazing how the MRI revealed your husband had previously had a event that you knew nothing about. Exactly my experience. I bet there are thousands of people walking around not knowing they have had a Tia until they have a scan! Yesterday I read some research that basically said that dehydration whilst asleep can lead to a stroke. It recommended that drinking a glass of water the moment you wake up is proving to be very beneficial in avoiding stroke especially among the elderly. Well I am trying it I don’t think a glass of water before breakfast will be a detrimental habit. I was lucky my carotids were clear. Unfortunately the COVID lockdown prevented me asking any questions at the time.
My cholesterol levels before Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) were around 3.8 now they are 1.8 as they were when I had my second Tia last Christmas. So it wasn’t cholesterol that was responsible. I think it was caused possibly by blood clotting medication prescribed to slow bleeding after a tooth extraction . Anyway I hope they sought out your husband’s carotid ASAP I am sure they will and you can both relax.
Wishing you both best wishes Unclejack.
