Recent diagnosis CMML

Oh @Unclejack I am so sorry! I feel for you. I was in a similar situation about a year ago when I was in hospital requiring IV antibiotics for a serious and persistent lung infection which incidentally still hasn’t fully cleared but that’s another story. There is nothing much worse than what you are describing especially when having to rush to the toilet when connected to an intravenous drip. It’s no good the nurses saying you’ll have to wait?!!! All I can say to give you a bit of hope, is that when I got home I tried to eat fermented foods such as sourdough bread, kimchi, etc, and eventually my gut settled down. I began to think it never would, but it did. Sending you love, Willow x

Oh @Unclejack I was only thinking of you today. I don’t know what to say  What a nightmare for you & for your wife. I really hope you can get home soon & everything settles. Sending love :two_hearts:

@Logsie Good to hear from you & Happy Birthday to your husband! :slightly_smiling_face: Great to hear about the recent bloods & platelets, good news. Can’t believe it’s been over a year since the diagnosis! Sending you both best wishes. Take care :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Oh crikey @Unclejack . This sounds so awful for you. I really sympathise with the antibiotic causing such awful diarrhoea -especially when they didn’t even find an infection in your knee! :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:. It’s where I’ve been for over 9 months! Hope the anti fungal medicine for your mouth sores soon starts to work. Nothing worse than a sore mouth when trying to eat. Is your knee feeling any better?

Sending you all my best hopes for you getting out of hospital asap.

Hi @Logsie

Great to hear the good news re your husband’s recent consultation and blood results and glad you’ve been “upgraded” to fewer appointments. I requested every 6 months once it seemed that all was remaining stable! But that was after many years!

Hi all, thanks once again for all the support.the Nystatin mouthwash arrived and have taken the first dose it’s supposed to be very effective, we shall see. All this stress and not related to Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia ('CMML')! Willow, got the same idea as you, fermented foods, natural greek yoghurt, probiotics etc. I have had blood tests every day not seen the full set but platelets returned to 64 and monocytes lower a little . Seems so many have problems with antibiotics. I absolutely hate them. Hope all of you stay well best wishes Unclejack.

Hi @Unclejack

How are you doing?

Chrissy

@Sisi @ChrissyD @Erica @Willow @Logsie . Afternoon all. Things have gone from bad to worse. Diarrhea returned with a vengeance. Can’t sleep tried to get it resolved but no one will help they keep saying they need a sample. But finding a recepticlle for the said simple seems impossible. This has been going on for days. Two bone doctors came suggesting they repeat last week’s aspiration, I said repeating the same experiment twice and expecting a different result is ridiculous and they said they could cut into joint and flush the joint out so that’s the next procedure IF I STAY. They advised I well be in hospital another week. Absolutely horrified at the prospect, can’t stand it much more brain in meltdown. Wife begged me not to run for but after 8 days of this nonsense I can’t stand anymore. All the others in my ward are leaving which makes it worse. Anyway that’s it. Best wishes Unclejack

Hi all. Now entering my 4th week in hospital. Seems situation not changing.. Arthritic knee possibly infected is being blamed. After a 4 year battle with Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia ('CMML') seems a arthritic knee will be my nemesis. They feed me antibiotics via iv.everyday for nearly 3 weeks. I suspect the old immune system which was holding its ground against Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia ('CMML') has probably been finished off. I underwent a procedure on my right knee were a camera is inserted to examine the joint internally. The procedure involved a general anaesthetic. A tube of some sort was inserted into my mouth it pierced the roof of my mouth causing severe bleeding. My wife was in my ward awaiting my return when this happened she genuinely thought I had died! Any way after a week of agony it has slowly healed. Every day seems like a excerpt from a horror show. The food is dreadful supplied by outside contractors. Strangely I never dreamt that arthritis and a medical accident would be more dangerous tor my health than blood cancer. Anyway hope everyone is ok. Best wishes Unclejack.

Dear @Unclejack

I really feel for you and what you have been going through for the past few weeks. Not helped by the medical investigations causing you other problems in addition to the one you went in with! Just hoping that they will soon find out what and where the infection is and get it treated properly so you can go home for nicer food. Your wife must be so worried for you too.

Maybe the Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia ('CMML') is not helping fight the infection so well? Horrible that the diarrhoea is back too.

We’re all thinking of you and sending our best wishes for your full recovery very soon.

Xx

Thanks ever so much for the brilliant support. The nursing staff have been very good. But everything else is shambolic. I feel I am residing in a soviet union ghoulag! No sunlight for nearly 4 weeks. The wife brings in plenty of fruit nuts and other nutricios foods. My diet of great foods has been destroyed along with my gut microbiome and probably the rest of my immune system. I actually seriously believe the food available is designed to force patients to drag themselves to a shiny restraint were possibly decent food is available at a very high price. I can’t have hot drinks yet because of my mouth wound or hot food but that’s no loss. My thoughts drift back to the breakfast of natural greek yoghurt and blueberries then the organic porridge and raisins, two beautiful organic eggs and fried tomatoes! I don’t feel at all well. Can’t sleep, eat little, and can’t walk far. Oddly seems no connection to Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia ('CMML'). Never mind here comes my umpteenth dose of IV ANTIBIOTICS. Thank god for this forum and the brilliant support from so many brilliant people. I still have hope the infection will clear and I will be released into the 21st century. God bless you all Unclejack.

God bless you too @Unclejack. It is so kind of you to think of us when you are going through so much. It must feel never-ending for you and your wife! As I said in an earlier post I have had prolonged IV antibiotics in hospital in a sealed room with no daylight so I really do sympathise with your situation. And you have extra issues that I didn’t experience that make it even worse for you. All I can say is I am ‘with you in spirit’ and sending love your way. Willow x
