@Sisi@Duncan@ChrissyD@willo@ erica@lindham and all. 3:15 am yes Erica seriously considering the book. Need a title. I think the title the cube would be appropriate. The room I am in is about 10 ft. by 10ft by 8ft. No windows, grimy white ceiling tiles, dirty floor, very cold at night. I will not mention the toilet situation as even thinking about it brings on a near death experience. The food is incredible. A shiny menu pushes a vision of gourmet food fit for a royal feast. In reality a clever system that makes wallpaper paste resemble fish! Sandwiches which have a unique ability to soak up any moisture in the vicinity. Also they manage to stick to the roof of your mouth impossible to swallow. My wife now brings in food. Today I intend escaping this shambles. The plan is to ask for a supply of pain killers and discharge myself. A neighbouring patient also with cancer and given a couple of months to live left the other day, as he said what little time he had left he would spend with his wife and family. Although he was in a much worse position than myself I understand exactly how he feels. Strangely the previous ward I was in was much better. The staff had simple humanity and did not disappear at 10pm and return at around 5 am. Yep I think todayās the day if I can get the painkillers.
Wishing everyone a happy Easter, best wishes Unclejack
Morning @Unclejack I gather from the timing of your post that you havenāt had much sleep? I am so sorry for all you are going through and your dear wife too. I hope your plan succeeds. Thinking of you very much. Willow x
That sounds dreadful. No wonder you want to get out of there. Presume still no draining procedure on your knee today either?
Hope you are successful in getting out with some pain relief medication as it doesnāt seem that any progress has been made - either on diagnosis or any successful treatment after such a long time?
Letās hope you can get home soon to some healthy foods, a room with windows and a clean toilet. And lovely nursing staff -as your wife surely is!
@Sisi@Erica@ChrissyD@Willow@lyndham@Duncan and everyone. IāFREE YIPPEE!!! After Mondays cancellation my consultant visited me. I was already dressed for the procedure, nil by mouth etc. He said basically that the team thought that to proceed with the joint washout procedure whilst there was little evidence of a ongoing infection and it could actually make the situation worse was not appropriate. So basically on active monitoring similar to what most of us are going through. He said any sign of determination and they would operate. I was in full agreement. It means more blood tests but thatās okay by me. Found the walking frame useful hopefully a temporary situation. Certainly common sense decision, putting cameras and needles etc into the joint seemed risky to me not knowing the actual cause of the problem. I have liquid morphine and plenty of paracetamol so should manage the pain. Can I take this opportunity of thanking all on the forum for the great support. It was a dreadful stay in hospital and the great messages really kept me sane. God bless you all. Best wishes Unclejack.
Well done @Unclejack ! Glad to hear youāre home and the invasive procedures are on hold for now. Iām sure youāll do so much better with your healthy diet, sleeping in your own bed and in a clean and hygienic place!
Iām sure we forum buddies are all happy to have sent our words of consolation and glad that they may have helped you a little.
I am so pleased for you @Unclejack and for your wife too. What an ordeal you have been through! You are certainly a true survivor. Thinking of you and wishing you health and strength and relief from the terrible pain. God bless you, Willow x
Euphoria has passed@ Erica @chrissyD and all, stepped on the scales today, lost about a stone and half! Checked my patients know best site, the graph of blood test results was shocking from almost straight line stable to a graph result that would have looked at home on the Chernobyl web site! I blame the IV antibiotics but who knows. Hopefully rest and good food will restore my stability. I visit the orthopedic clinic next week so that could be interesting. Best wishes Unclejack.
@Unclejack Take care & enjoy being home. Iām sure in a few weeks things will improve. Youāve been through a lot these last few weeks, mentally & physically.
Oh goodness. Thatās a big weight loss but Iām sure with home made good food (and rice pudding Ć la DuncanB! For extra calories and nutrients, use brown short grain rice for a nice nutty flavour and more fibre, and add in chopped dried apricots, prunes, lemon rind and top with whole full fat Greek yogurt! With acknowledgements to Delia Smith.). Plus if your gut has settled down, it might be easier to retain all the nutrients ?
