We did and what a 5 days it made.
Just canât believe we declared, but still lost by narrow margin
My nails are bitten down to the quick. It was a shame that Anderson was out of sorts, it may well have been a different story if he was on his usual form.
I know there was a few dropped catches along the way. I wasnât paying attention to individuals but obviously you may be right
The only thing I understand or donât understand is we declared, yet lost by such a narrow margin?
A long way to go.
Tuning in to sky, I find to my surprise America actually have a Cricket Team,?! Is anybody else shocked at this.
I was aware that "mino teams " play in qualifying world cup Tournament but America?!
@Iain @MikeW @Rammie18
Sufficed to say with a score of 237-2 at 6.46 per over I think Zimbabwe will win!
Now 286-2 off 40 overs!
They are also starting their own version of the ipl. I think itâs a great thing! USA is very good at taking advantage of what is popular and marketable versions of the game. Obviously they wonât have the history or the players but they do have the weather. Itâs the same thing as them playing nfl and baseball games here. The latter which was a great filler inbetween Glastonbury this weekend!
Well they got the hang of soccer/football in the end anyway⌠@Rammie18
I canât really see Cricket being BIG over in the states as I feel most public will see it as being too much like baseball.
Back in the day nobody could of seen soccer /football ball being successful. Personally I think soccer was something different it was a case of would it actually compete with their traditional sports.
Cricket will struggle because in the eyes of an American it is too similar
STILL canât believe this usa 86-8
What will attract Americans is how much money is in the game and the popularity of the sport overseas! Of course they will market it and have little tweaks to make it us-friendly but itâs the way sports is going at the moment! Iâm just shocked Middle East hasnât taken to cricket esp as the ipl was held their during covid and conflict
Time will only tellâŚ
@Rammie18 @Iain @MikeW I was surprised to see the West Indies in the qualifying rounds of the World Cup, whatâs happening?! This is the nation that gave us Richards and Lara? In terms of producing consistent quality I thought Cricket to them was like football to Brazil in 1970. They suffered a close but shock defeat to Holland today, dare I say it, coud America beat them?
Currently watching, Iâm saying nothing! @Iain
Currently a 50 50 game. Keeps those expensive seats entertained. As Iâve said before itâs got to be a balance between winning and entertaining. Stokes on song!
Hope I donât want to put a curse on it but if Broad can block/score then with 4 more wickets we could be knife edge. Now for the nes ball.
At least we could dream for a bit.
A brave attempt.
As for the controversy our batsman was naive sadly, itâs in the rules.
Different sports, but if a forward sneaks behind a keeper and heads it out of his one hand, itâs a goal
@Iain
Agreed but with the proviso that the offcial hadnât called over!
To follow your football analogy âIt ainât offside till the flag goes upâ?
If itâs stumped, and he was clearly out of his wicket Iâm not sure if there can be a player appeal to âtestâ the umpires in their process? Would that be another âungentalmanlyâ act questioning the efficacy of the officials. âThatâs not cricket old boy.â
And on the matter of fair play and all that, this is in the world of the accused racist, sexist, misogynistic English Cricket.
To me itâs a strange one as to why its controversial, perhaps Cricket goes beyond being a competitive sport?
In football the ref decides when the game is over, by blowing the whistle, the umpire signals end of over. In football there is no gentlemans agreement between teams that after the 90th minute both teams "play the game out ", but then thatâs football, this is cricket @Iain
If anything itâs just made the next tests that little bit more spicy!!! Which is great for a neutral!
Canât wait to sit down⌠beer in hand and few snacks close by!
A fair observation. Cricket, a game played by 'Gentlemen ', you know the ones that wanted a fight with their visitors in the Long Room .
Iâve been in/at games where the Umpire has declared âover!â but by no means all and often not more than a whisper to the bowler. Important if no balls had been added to the statutory 6 deliveries.
Mankad, the bowler not delivering but stumping of the non stricker who wanders out of their crease is taken as âbad formâ whilst
technically not a breach hence the this similar reponse to this âungentalmanlyâ act by the Aussies.
Itâs a bit like in Soccer kicking the ball out for an opponent players apparent serious injury and then giving the ball back to the opposition who âdecently kicked it outâ. No rule in the FA for it as far as I know.
A clearer call by the bowlers Umpire wouldnât harm.
Ah! Rammie,
A few Kingfishers and Samosas- nice one!
@Rammie18 Do you think we will see an all out pitch brawl!?
I just really hope the weather stays dry
