Totally confused!

Hi @Lou I hope you and your husband are doing okay? As you say, Lou, I can only imagine what a worry it must be each time he goes out. But it sounds like you are taking care as much as possible with this until there is hopefully more support with food deliveries. Hope the pharmacy2u option and @Willow’s suggestion were helpful to you?

Hi Lou, yes, it is very interesting, and actually usually quite tasty, making meals from what I have left in the fridge, the lost back of the cupboards or the hidden depths of my freezer. I should have done it ages and I mean ages ago. When I was at work one friend used to joke about 100 and 1 things to do with mince another 100 and 1 things to do with chicken and I was 100 and 1 things to do with sausages. Today I am using more random ingredients together in my trusted slow cooker. Keep posting and take care.

Yes I rang my gp first and he said cll didnt count as needing shielding but since the consultant said it did I rang the cancer nurse and she said I should shield …she also said register on gov.com which I did .The nhs sent me a txt saying my application would be sent to my gp so Im back to square one …It really worries me that the gp doesnt listen to the consultant and that he will not even now put me forward

@Annie78 I’m so sorry to hear this, it’s understandable to feel worried. Has your GP explained why they feel you are not high risk? And is your consultant and your nurse aware of this?

@SuBloodcancerUK Thanks. I’ve managed to get on the Tesco delivery list. Never been so happy to see a food delivery, although reailsed I need to pay more attention to what I order as some of the sizes were a bit odd. The local Reading support hub got my daughter’s prescription for me and then Royal Free couriered my meds from London, so they are now happily nestling in the fridge. Now I just have to stop binge watching TV programmes and get ironing done!

Hi Lou, I iron less and less now. I am a wash and wear girl and I am living in leggings and a tee shirt in isolation. I doubt I will fit into my jeans when I actually return into society.

@Lou ah that’s so good to hear Lou! must be such a relief for you? and not at all, binge watch away haha do you have any favourites?

Hello I have been back to my gp who is not now convinced I should be on the list ! Inspite of my team at the hospital saying I should be so Im going round in circles …thinking now I will change my gp after this is all over I have lost faith in him after 50 years with the same practice

@Annie78 hello again! I’m so sorry again to hear about all of this. As you say, @Annie78 changing your GP is an option for you. In the meantime, perhaps it might be worth seeing if the hospital team can do anything from their end to help you get the letter from the NHS?

Hi Annie, how really frustrating for you, even my stress levels are rising for you. It is no consolation to you at all but even if you are on the Gov.uk list it is very difficult to get a grocery home delivery slot with most supermarkets. Take care and stay safe that is the main thing and keep posting.

Hi all,
I contacted my GP as I hadn’t got NHS letter advising me that I was high risk, I know I am. He didn’t think I was.
I registered on Gov UK and received letter via my haematologist saying that I am.
I also received an email from my local council recognising my high risk asking me what help I needed regarding food supplies and medications.
I’m fortunate that my daughter gets my food supplies and a good friend collects my medication so I’m not in need of help at the moment, this of course could change as the virus spreads.
My haematologist also mentioned that all her cancer patients were having treatment plans reviewed and unless I hear to the contrary I should assume my treatment will continue.
That is a cause for concern to me but I’ll find out for sure when I have my pre chemo blood test on 23/4 and 70th monthly cycle of treatment w/c 27/4.
Living in constant fear and stress.
Best wishes
Anthony

Hi Anthony, I need to tell you that I have had I had a surreal experience a couple of days ago, we are in a flat and the outer front door bell went and my husband dealt with it…
It was 2 burly guys in heavy, fluorescent protective wear including headgear, gloves and masks and they insisted they need to talk to me in person. From a distance my husband checked their id and they were from my local Borough Council. Apparently they had not been able to contact me on the phone and needed to see me and check I was OK. Well, I certainly haven’t left the flat in weeks. Anyway they stood 6 ft away and asked me a series of questions including did I have enough medication for 12 weeks, I said ‘No’ as I have monthly prescriptions, could I get the prescriptions, did I need a food parcel etc. They filled in the answers on their ipad and asked if I needed anything else and off they went. I was left feeling quite shaken, it was scary. Half an hour later my local Borough Council rang and asked me the same questions !!! I am also dealing with heightened emotions, mostly at my on line grocery supermarket. Let us know what happens with your blood test and monthly cycle of treatment. Take care and stay safe.

Sounds like a scam Erica.
I’ve read reports of several people being visited in a similar manner.
Be very careful, there are evil people taking advantage of vulnerable people, probably hacking into local government IT systems to find them.

I’ll let you know what occurs at pre chemo blood test,
fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:
Best wishes
Anthony

@Erica I hope you are okay? I remember you posting about this on Friday, and I have raised this with the support services team, to see if we can shed anymore light on this. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling better.

@Blackhat how are you? I have read your posts, and it’s so understandable to be finding this a stressful and worrying time. I hope it has helped being able to talk about it on here?

It certainly does Sue.
Only another cancer patient can understand what we all go through.

@Blackhat that’s really encouraging to hear Anthony that this space has provided some comfort and reassurance. Are there other things in addition you find helps you? We have had people get in touch with us in similar situations, and have said how activities be it music, any form of art, or even writing helps them. I wonder if there’s any of that you can relate to?

Dear Sue,
Music :notes: is my form of escapism, I’ve Spotify on my iPad and listen to the music, mostly of my teenage years.
Every item on the playlist if built reminds me of moments in the most exciting years of my life, people places etc.
I was a teenager in the 60s, Glory Days for me.
I’m still in touch with a friend I first met in1959 at a jazz club.
We often reminisce about “our good old days”
His wife accused him of living in the past, so do I.
When you’ve got more behind you and uncertain future
(He is not well either) I’m sure the older members on the forum do the same, possibly some of the younger too.
I read a lot, Kent County Council Libraries have an online site where one can download books free of charge for 21days.
I make a point of walking 4-5 miles a day too, I’d walk more but I get tired easily
Prior to diagnosis I walked 7-10 miles a day.
Best wishes
Anthony

Hi Anthony and @SuBloodcancerUK, I did check my surreal experience out with my local council when she rang and yes, they are sending people round in pairs when they their office says they cannot get hold of a vulnerable person on the phone, if the phone is engaged when they try that goes down as a ‘no show’ on their stats. I am literally on the border with a London Borough which is also doing the same. The reason that the people are kitted out like that is because they are visiting the vulnerable who are isolating and are aware of contamination. They haven’t got less scary gear because they have not got the available supplies, but they have got supplies of new fluorescent thick gear usually used by waste disposal operatives. They asked questions, but nothing of a dodgy nature and did not come inside our flat at all. Thanks for caring.

@Blackhat I’m so sorry to hear about your friend not being well, sending very best wishes to him. But how lovely that you are still in contact! As you say, Anthony, music can definitely have the effect- especially with the nostalgia it can bring  And that’s great to hear about the online books :+1: I can imagine something like that can help with taking your mind off things and getting engrossed in a book. It’s great that you’ve found what has helped you Anthony, and from other threads, sounds like you have a great taste in music too!

Hi Anthony and @SuBloodcancerUK, I am all for Anthony’s play list, but perhaps a bit more pop than Jazz, we have been down ‘Memory Lane’ together, musically of course.
