Thanks All

We are in hospital and hoping to head home on Tuesday after (hopefully ) last IV chemo. I have posted a photo that might trigger some memories for you @Fullofbeans …?

I am also after some advice for Danae please. She has really itchy skin and has tried all the routes of antihistamines, steroid and hydrocortisone creams etc. Does anyone have any suggestions please? She has rash on hands and feet (now drying up) but is still super itchy all over. Anyone know of something that might help please?

Thanks One and All. We hope everyone is having a good weekend and look forward to hearing from you guys

Lots of love

Hi Dynamic Duo, hoping you get home on Tuesday, but keep pressing your medical team to sort out your itchy skin and hand and feet rash.
If that fails your GP and pharmacist.
However others on our forum might have some handy hints.
Oh that’s a lovely picture of I bet a rugged south western coastline.
I’m a Strictly Girl so the weekends have taken on a usual autumnal/winter routine.
You are a real Dynamic Duo and I bet you just want to get back to your own beds.
Keep posting!!!

Hi @SarahMum/the Dynamic Duo

The chemo gave me all sorts of rashes and hives, and my hands and fingers peeled too. But I wasn’t too itchy, so I just used a petroleum cream like Vaseline that they gave me, and that soothed things. I think as @Erica says, best ask the medics about this. They’ll hopefully have something stronger up their sleeves. But now I think of it, I did have itchy hives as a child and was hospitalised (because it was a bad allergic reaction) - and good, old fashioned calamine lotion helped ease that. I hope you/the docs can find something to ease the itching - it is very distressing when it’s not under control.

I do recognise that door! It’s either the same one or very similar to the one in my second room at Derriford - a small, darker room than my first. My first room had a surfing type photo. Gosh, it was good to escape those rooms. I really hope Danae is discharged on Tues as planned. You’d have to have a special celebration that night!

Do you see the lovely Juan there? And presumably Hannah and Patrick? I’m going up on Friday 13th for a check up. I’m tempted to change that check up date! But unfortunately I don’t think I should as I postponed my vsit once for our holiday, and then they had to change my new date too, so I had better go.

And actually, I accidentally dyed my hair orange (long story involving supposedly brown henna) so I should see Juan whilst it’s like this, because he used to sing, ā€˜The sun will come out, tomorrow!’ on seeing my ridiculously short, curly chemo curls. The red curls will make his day.

Take care both of you, and hopefully you’ll be out soon. X

Thanks @Erica and @Fullofbeans Great suggestions.

There is much excitement here! I think we are in your room @Fullofbeans :joy:. Also, please don’t change your appointment as we should be in Birch that day too as Danae will need to come up on 3 day a week visits initially.

That will make Friday 13th a super positive day as we can meet and have a cup of tea . We think that would be wonderful (and hope you feel the same…?)

Ward rounds today so will see what else they come up with re: itching and will keep you posted if we are allowed home :house_with_garden:

Thanks lovely peeps and hope you have a great start to the week!

Oh fantastic @SarahMum/the Dynamic Duo! Would love LOVE to see you both! My appt is supposedly at 3.45, but I have to have bloods downstairs first, and need at least an hour between the two, and I always get there early, so will be there by 12. Will you be there then? I can come earlier than that if need be. Would be wonderful to actually meet you both!

Oh, so you’re in the slightly less VIP room now, ha ha! But it is where I had successful treatment, so it must have good energy, if there is such a thing.

Best of luck with an itching solution in ward round. There must be something yet up their slleeve.

And everything crossed you’re home tomorrow.

See you soon!

It’s a shame you’re so far away @Fifimac! It would be wonderful to see you too. How are you doing? I hope you can feel a little bit of progress each day? I seem to remember I slept a lot in the first few months. Hope you’re able to rest and progress in a balanced way. X

Heya lovely peeps

Just when it was all going so well…. We are back in hospital :frowning: Danae picked up a cold but also an infection. So…we came back in yesterday via the emergency department. The day care team were amazing and came down and rescued us from ED. A bed was found and Danae moved back in yesterday evening.

Not going to lie - it was a hellish day. It ended with Danae having a reaction to platelet transfusion and she went mega itchy and her eyes/lips puffed up.

So, alas we won’t be in Birch unit on Friday @Fullofbeans as D is on Bracken. I will be at the hospital so would still love to meet for a cup of tea if you can let me know a good time/place?

You are right @Fifimac - it would be amazing for us all to meet up at some point. Oh, the tales you brave people have to tell :two_hearts:

So, that is our update. Good news is Danae is slightly brighter today and temperature is down. Her red blood count was 61 today so she is currently having a bag - another one on its way after for dessert.

As always, the team here are being super amazing.

Hope everyone else out there is doing well? Still hope to meet you on Friday @Fullofbeans ? Will leave it with you.

Catch up with everyone soon

Lots of love The DD (only not quite as dynamic as usual but I am sure normal service will resume shortly :two_hearts:)

Hi @SarahMum & Danae

Wow ! This disease certainly throws us some curve balls along the way -:frowning:
You have both been through the wars again this week but hopefully things are on the up again :crossed_fingers:t2:

I had a reaction to a platelet transfusion whilst I was getting chemo last year. I didn’t have as severe a reaction though. I was shaking all over , thankfully it must be commonplace in a Haematology setting as they were on it right away.
Anti-histamine & Piriton given through my line and I fell asleep for a good hour. Felt much better when I woke up. If I needed platelets after that episode I always had to have the Piriton & anti histamine first.

Poor Danae had the added trouble of an infection aswell.
I hope Danae is back feeling a bit better soon. You have both had a rough time.
I hope you do get to grab a cuppa & a blether with @Fullofbeans … it would be nice to talk and help each other. Talking to someone who has or still is going through a similar thing definitely helps.

Please give Danae my love and yourself of course too.

Much love

Oh @SarahMum and Danae, just when you were doing so well Danae.
As @Fifimac says the disease certainly throws us some curve balls.
Thank goodness you have such an amazing medical team and are in safe hands.
However it must have been a horrible day for you both and Danae let’s hope you have started to turn a corner.
It will take time to build your Dynamicness back up.
Let’s hope there is still an assignation on the cards for Friday with @Fifimac
I love those words in the picture, so, so true, thank you…
Really look after yourselves and loads of virtual hugs whizzing your way. xxxxxxx

Ah really sorry to hear that, Danae and @SarahMum. Infections - bane of our lives! I also ended back on Bracken via ED with an infection after being discharged (after my Stem cell transplant, to the lodge.) It’s sooooo depressing, isn’t it, having that initial glorious freedom snatched away and yet more treatments and worry? It feels never ending. Poor Danae. Poor you, Sarah. And a reaction to platelets too. What an upsetting couple of days. I’m glad Danae is perking up a bit though. I hope she’s not too itchy.

Of course I’m up for meeting for a coffee still. Such a shame Danae can’t come this time, but I’m sure we’ll be able to do it again with her.

I’m going to be a little later than I originally said - would 1.30 be ok? I could meet you on those sofas/chairs outside Bracken, and we could grab a coffee downstairs or from anywhere else that’s handy?

And it would be amazing if we could one day meet @Fifimac too!

Take it very easy everyone, and a big virtual hug to you all. Xxx

Hi All

As always, thanks for your replies and virtual love/hugs etc. It means so much and I have just read them out to Space Cadet Danae lol :joy:. She is in that much pain they have put her on a continual supply of codeine and oxycodone but she is smiling  and loves hearing from everyone.

She is a little brighter today and has just had a pack of Hula Hoops - they have been her ā€˜go to’ throughout all her chemo treatment. She loves them lol :joy:

That sounds a plan for tomorrow @Fullofbeans - will meet you at the chairs for 1:30. It will be lovely to have a meet and a chat :two_hearts:

@Fifimac how are things going for you? Do you feel stronger as time is passing? We hope so.

Thanks again lovely peeps. Danae said she is gonna rest up and work on getting the dynamicness fired up again @Erica

Catch up soon and see you tomorrow @Fullofbeans :star_struck:

Hi @SarahMum & Danae

I’m so sorry to hear Danae is in pain , hopefully she gets back on track soon :crossed_fingers:t2:are the antibiotics starting to kick in ?

I love Hula Hoops too , infact they’re going on my shopping list !!! I’ve not had them in ages.

I’m feeling more energetic slowly but surely  but I’m bad for not wanting to be too excited about feeling good incase it all changes !! Silly I know and I keep getting told by my Consultant to enjoy feeling better and let her do the worrying , and she says she’s not worrying. There could be blips but we’ll worry about them if and when they occur !

I’m so excited for you and @Fullofbeans meeting up tomorrow :dancer::dancer: I hope you both have a lovely time.
Give Danae my love & very best wishes😊

Keep us updated on her progress and tomorrow’s rendevous x x x

Oh @SarahMum and Danae thanks for the update, but so sorry to hear that you have been in so much pain Danae.
Oh, hula hoops, a great choice, I like them as they are made from potato. I am not sso keen on the flavoured ones.
Danae, can you eat them without putting them on all your fingers and thumbs first, that is the question?
I will be thinking of you @SarahMum and @Fullofbeans when the clock strikes 1.30 tomorrow, oh, I do like an assignation!!!
Rest up Danae and take it steady and then when you feel up to it slowly start firing up your dynamicness.
Take lots of special care of yourselves both of you and looking forward to your next post already.
Loads of virtual hugs our (work in progress) DD xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
