Hi everyone!
As you may remember back in February we did our first ‘Ask the Nurses topic of 2025, covering ‘Active Monitoring’.
From 16th - 22nd June 2025 it is Myeloma awareness week, with this in mind, we decided for our second topic the focus will be on Bone Health in Myeloma.
Bone disease in myeloma is often the most common and debilitating part of having the disease. It can cause pain and fatigue for many patients. Approximately three quarters of patients have evidence of bone disease present at diagnosis and around 9 out of 10 will have bone disease involvement at some point in having myeloma.
However, there are ways of managing this, so it’s important to speak to your team if you notice any new or worsening pain or reduction in mobility. Treatment and management of this includes bisphosphonates, painkillers, monoclonal antibodies and movement.
There are lots of things that can be done to help manage your worries and pain if this is something that is a concern for you.
We want this to be a space to ask our @BloodCancerUK_Nurses any questions you may have, share your experiences and seek support with anything that may be on your mind. So please do comment/ ask away.
You may also find this podcast by Dr. Jam Kothari and Dr. Sally Moore helpul to listen to as it discusses how bone disease can affect those with multiple myeloma and how bisphosphonates such zolendronic acid can help manage pain, prevent fractures, and support treatment. 009 Bone Disease, Bisphosphona… - The Myeloma Minutes - Apple Podcasts
