Awaiting or considering or had a stem cell transplant, a place to share here

Hi all - feeling so very much better. @Summertime i think they tried me on about 6 different anti nausea from oral tablets to IV drips to stomach injections. One called something like Dom Perignon makes me smile (it’s not the real name but I love the idea of drinking posh champagne to avert sickness )
I was fortunate in that I didn’t need teeth extractions or dental work, so win some don’t win some!
All so much better now - I’d just like some fresh air and home cooking.
They’ve been amazing here - incredibly friendly and kind and great nursing so despite the sepsis I’ve felt lucky xx

Ps having survived the cancer the chemo the SCT it would have been an irony to have choked to death on my own hair! And I woke up with mouthful of my hair the day I braved the shave!
And I’m relieved my head shape under where my hair was is ok :+1:t3:
Honestly not as traumatic as I thought it would be xxxx

So pleased to hear you have gotten through it and you are feeling better. Must say I’m not looking forward to it. Did you suffer sickness on the chemo prior to transplant chemo. I have not had any thank goodness.
It’s a comfort to hear they are nice there:grinning:. I’m lapping up your updates thinking this will be me soon :scream:
I quite like my shaved head and it’s sooo much quicker getting ready in the morning.
Keep strong @ChrisCKW before you know it you will be home enjoying some home cooking.

Hi @ChrisCKW and @Summertime, I love the way you both can still see the positives and have a laugh despite all you have had going on.
@ChrisCKW with the Dom Perignon it is all in the posh bubbles.
Wonderful that you did not need any dental work doing.
How horrible to wake up with a mouthful of your own hair and that after your head was shaved your head shape looked OK.
As @Summertime says we are lapping up your updates.
Take so much care of yourselves and it does make you realise that there is nothing like fresh air and home cooking.

Hi @ChrisCKW, lovely to read your post. I thought things had probably been pretty tough for you but sepsis is pretty scary :worried:. So pleased things are now under control. I’ve gone off tea too, not drinking enough so had low blood pressure which is hard to shake off. The sickness is the worst thing but slowly being weened off the stomach injections, I think I’m having the same Omdezatron (could be the Dom Perignon) and Nosinan, something like that. All being well might get home mid week. Neutrophils are up to 0.89 today and they will let you escape when they get to 1.00 Glad you have a good head shape it’s a bonus. Hang in there , love and hugs :hugs::hugs: and stop eating your hair!! @Summertime sounds like you’ve had a bit of a tough few days too, line sounds a nightmare. :hugs::hugs: to you too. @Danmar hope you’re getting more tolerant of the meds, hopefully not long now until transplant. Xx

@Lyn99, it sounds as if you have really been going through it yourself, but fingers crossed on a mid week escape (whoops, release) date or was I right the first time, keep tunneling for the great escape and Steve McQueen with a motor bike helmet for you to ride pillion with your arms round his waist.
I haven’t been on the Sainsbury’s equivalent of Dom Perignon, honestly, I am just fantasising.
Take special care and please keep letting us know how you get on.

Hi @Lyn99 and all the lovely people. Glad your doing so well Lynn. It won’t be long until your back in your own bed. I’ve been off the radar a few days now. Just “scundered” at the moment ( I’m Irish so it’s a word that is used here for totally fed up… or worse!! ) I’m on Ixazomid Revlimid and Dexamethasone and it really has knocked me. Maybe because I felt so well before they put me on it  You seemed to have coped ok with your transplant which is great.@Chris not so pleasant for you though! I so unpredictable how it affects different people. But hopefully your’e over the worst now. @Summertime im glad you recovered from your extractions but you didn’t need all that carry on with the Picc line! Surely there’s a way of identifying which type it is :woman_shrugging: @Lyn99 & @ Chris you both manage to keep us all amused after everything you’ve been through :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I will be reviewed again around the 20 th September so I’m still no further towards transplant yet. @Summertime looks like you’ll get there before me…. But that’s good for you. Also your getting the lovely Dr Crawley by the sounds of it? I have visions of a George Clooney lookalike!@Franko sorry I don’t seem to have named you in any of my posts but your experiences are invaluable too. Well… think I’m back on the gravy train!! Love to all xxxx

Hi @Danmar, thanks I have just learnt a new word ‘scundered’ it sounds as if it describes how you are feeling at the moment so well.
I shall use a really old word now.
Cosset yourself (really look after yourself) xx

@Summertime
Wi-fi brilliant at weekends but a bit slow and a tendency to drop out during the weekday day time.
I’m doing well now and looking towards becoming an outpatient
No ideals to date yet. Our allogenic transplants are a bit more prone to issues than getting your own cells back but the care here is outstanding.
Can’t wait for better food though
Xx
@Lyn99 wow wow wow, so pleased you are almost there! Hugs xxxxx

Hi Lovely Forum People, just had my neutrophil count 1.16 today, they said that over 1.00 would enable escape :grinning: but they’ve pulled a fast one and now saying it needs to be stable for a few days :disappointed_relieved: I know they have my best interests at heart but ughhhh…Taken to feeding birds on my windowsill, I’m now the bird woman of Great Western Hospital…Did The Bird Man of Alcatraz ever escape, somehow I doubt it…

I got all excited reading that first bit - imagined you packed and ready to go!!! Frustrating but I am so pleased that things are moving in the right direction.
The Bird Women - I like it. They’ll miss you when you are gone. However, I’m keeping everything crossed that you manage to escape by the weekend!

Oh @Lyn99 moving the goal posts how unfair. Keep tunneling.
How do the birds take to hospital food I wonder.
I don’t think that you want to really know this, but I have just looked it up.
The Birdman of Alcatraz spent 17 yrs in Alcatraz and in total 54yrs in prison till he died in prison. I’d aspire to someone else if I were you, like Steve McQueen.
Hi @Lyn99, @ChrisCKW @Summertime @Danmar just say the word and I will start a petition to ‘Free the SCT Gang’.
Look after yourselves.
