Hi there, I have been experiencing pretty severe pain in my lower back on the right hand side during the night. I generally take my dasatanib in the early evening before food but was out last night and took it before going to bed. Was awake all night with back pain which only eased in the morning. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems like this on dasatanib. Have had joint / muscle pain occasionally with dasatanib but nothing too bad and the fatigue is an issue but last night was a different level, could it be related to taking the dasatanib at a different time to normal. Any thoughts on this wouid be very welcome, thanks Nick
Hi @NickC - I’m sorry to hear that you had a difficult night due to lower back pain.
I’ve been living with Chronic myeloid leukaemia for 13 years but was on different medications (imatinib and nilotinib), so am not able to comment directly. Like you I was affected by joint / muscle pain and fatigue, but not lower back pain. It’s understandable that we attribute every ache, pain and symptom to the Chronic myeloid leukaemia or medication, when of course they may be unrelated. I always let my care team know of any symptoms I’m experiencing so they are aware and can check it out if needed. Do you have someone that you can contact? You can also call our support services team on 0808 2080 888 if that would be helpful to you.
Take it easy and let us know how you get on. I hope you have a more restful sleep tonight too.
Maggie
Hi Maggie,
Thanks so much for getting in touch. I rang the blood cancer support number this morning and had a long chat with the nurse who took the call. She was very reassuring and when I described the deep pain I was experiencing to her said it was very typical of a Chronic myeloid leukaemia TKI side effect. It has eased through the morning and pain relief is helping now although it didn’t do much in the night. Will speak to Haematology on Monday .
Thanks again ,
Nick
Hi @NickC
I’m so glad you gave the support service team a call and that one of the nurses was able to provide you with some reassurance. They are a wonderful bunch.
Good call to speak to haematology on Monday too.
Hope you have a lovely weekend,
Maggie
