Dasatinib side effects

hi

I started on Dasatinib 2 weeks ago and am experiencing really bad bone/muscle pain in the left arm…have been given pain killers but they don’t last unfortunately and can’t sleep with the pain. Has anyone else experienced this and does it get better??? My consultant keeps saying the first month is the worst but I can’t see this improving at all

Oh @SPrincipe your symptoms sound really painful and anything that stops me sleeping means I cannot function logically during the day.
It sounds as if your medical team are aware but perhaps keep telling them how bad they are.
I hope others can share their experiences.
Please do keep updating us and perhaps here is a place you can say how it really is to be you.
Be really kind and really look after yourself.

Hi @SPrincipe,

We are so sorry to hear about the side effects you are experiencing from Dasatinib. We would encourage you to speak with your team/ clinical nurse specialist again about this, especially if this is not improving/ causing you to not sleep well.

It is a known side effect of Dasatinib to cause muscle/ joint pain. In particularly muscle pains. You could try a warm bath or warm compress to see if this will help at all, but your team may be able to prescribe you additional medications to help with this or to help with sleep.

Our colleagues at Macmillan have a page on this medication and this includes side effects Dasatinib (Sprycel®) | Macmillan Cancer Support

Take care,
Emma (Support Services Nurse)

Hi @SPrincipe

Hope you are doing Ok.

Just to say i was getting bone pains (wrists and shins) with Imatinib and in the first few weeks of treatment it was agony (especially in my legs). I was feeling a bit like you, and was desperate to learn more from the consultant about cupping (not wet), massage and acupuncture (to be done privately). Unfortunately my consultant wouldn’t give me any advice as to which one to pursue, and I couldn’t really afford to hit and hope, so i had no choice but to leave it.
Anyway as time has gone by it’s improved greatly. I do get the pains though (usually in the evening for some reason) but nothing like the pain i had in the early days.

Take Care,
C

Hi

The pain has eased a lot now thank god! The first two weeks were horrible but luckily it’s stopped now - didn’t know if I could have coped with it much longer!

I think I might try acupuncture as it has helped me before when I was pregnant!

Hope you’re doing well!
