BMB waiting - hard to cope

Hi again everyone,

So I am still waiting for my BMB results 4 weeks on. I have chased (many times!) and apparently not all results are back yet (although 3 tests are). I have repeatedly asked if they will phone me with any news, and my haematologist is usually great at that, so I doubt it is due to busyness etc.

I am assuming the worst, otherwise why not tell me what the first tests reveal or what they are waiting for? At this point any news would be better than the waiting, it is difficult to cope. Thanks for listening…

Hi @Lizzy123,

Thanks for posting. Waiting on test results is such a worrying time, no wonder you are finding it difficult. Unfortunately, some tests are complex and the results can take time to come back. It does not necessarily mean that the results are not good and this is why your haematologist hasn’t called.

These times are always difficult, as waiting for test results usually means worrying about them. Sometimes it helps to talk things though. We would be very happy to listen on our free support services line on 0808 2080. We are here until 4pm today and tomorrow until 1pm.

Take care
Fiona ( Support Services Nurse)

Hi @Lizzy123 .Waiting really is the hardest part. When I was diagnosed with lymphoma 7 years ago some tests did take a few weeks and it was really difficult.
It’s only natural that you are going to worry and it’s really important that you have the forum to support you and the support line if you need to talk things through.
I tried to keep myself busy, avoided googling and just tried to trust my team and know they would get back to me as soon as they would.
Everything must feel very out of control. Take each hour as it comes. Try and plan some things to keep you busy.
Are you working and do you have a good support system around you?
Sending lots of love xXx

Thanks so much everyone and Fiona for the phonecall. I’m barely eating and now worried that is a new symptom, but I think it’s just that I’m terribly anxious.
Nichola, if you don’t mind me asking, did they give you preliminary results of your lymphoma, or make you wait until all the results were back?

Oh @Lizzy123 the waiting and not knowing is the horrible part.
In my experience the medical people do not give me any results until they all come back. Yes, some take a lot longer than others.
I have always thought it is to give a complete picture of the results, otherwise they would not have ordered all the tests in the first place.
Perhaps try and think of food as fuel to keep the body functioning and the brain working logically, otherwise I find my anxiety raises and I make myself very ill.
Perhaps try little and often.
I do not make a patient patient.
Be very kind to yourself and please do let us know how you get on.

Thank you - you are all so lovely on here! I feel a little bit better now. Just got to wait and not try to predict what the results will be.

Is it common to not feel like eating when anxious?

Hi @Lizzy123 I am certainly not a medical person but I spent time with a friend today who is anxious and does not feel like eating. I am seeing her getting very weak and therefore even more anxious. But this is not a medical response.
However I eat when I am anxious, we are all very different.
I am so impressed by your personal insight and you can see by your responses above, we all understand how you are feeling.
Be kind to yourself xx

I knew I had the lymphoma following an operation to remove the parotid gland. However, the treatment plan was not put in place until the results of the bone marrow biopsy X

From talking to others, it differs so much depending on each individual case. I know that doesn’t help much but hang in there. Hopefully it won’t be to long now X

Lizzy 123 Hopefully you do not have to wait much longer for your results. It is a very stressfull and worrying time. Be kind to yourself . If you can think of something to keep you busy that can help keep you distracted even for a little while. Personally when I am anxious I can go either way eat little or indulge. Maybe treat yourself to something you really enjoy eating and I find that it can kickstart the appitite again. Best wishes Liz59
