Eating Well with Blood Cancer - Ask the Nurses

Hi @CallyS perhaps ask your clinical nurse or oncologist or dietician or even GP if there is anything you might do to help you spleen?
I see things very visually and I remember when I was first diagnosed I wanted to sort of pull the leukaemia out of me.
Be ever so kind to yourself and please do keep posting

Hi @CallyS,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Welcome to our forum.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things to help with your symptoms. At present, there is no evidence to suggest that any particular diet or food can prevent, treat or cure Blood Cancer. Eating a well balanced diet which includes a wide range of food is recommended. I have enclosed a link to our webpages on Blood Cancer and diet which has lots of useful information. I would also suggest talking to your Oncologist about a spleen healthier diet or a dietitian if you have one? You can ask your medical team for a dietician referral if you don’t already have one.

Take care

Hope your doing ok
It’s interesting re fluids isn’t it I had my consultation on Monday and my consultant said to make sure I’m drinking plenty of fluids to help my kidneys to be under less stress filtering medications through them
It really is important to consult your team as we are all individual
In still trying to keep my diet varied with fruit and veg and limiting chocolate and cake

Not long after my treatment ended I went on a yoga retreat. By chance the food all week was vegan and I felt amazing . I have ever since tried to stick to a vegetarian diet. After my chemo I suffered with lots of tummy issues ( still do and have developed IBS) Eating a plant based diet does help with this problem a lot.
Vegan would be far too difficult to maintain for me I think. I am an animal advocate and also RSPCA volunteer but this isn’t why I chose a vegetarian lifestyle it was simply that it helps me make better food choices and to eat a healthier more balanced diet. Don’t get me wrong on Christmas Day a slice of turkey will appear on my plate but now I just prefer vegetarian choices.
