@Erica
It was an away point, although Im sure your disappointed giving 2 goals away so was I… for Arteta & Evertons sake! Although I breathed a huge sigh of relief after utds result against Forest. Come on you Re** for Monday against Leeds I JUST CAN’T SAY IT!
The title will become "interesting " IF City beat Arsenal, pulling it back to 1pt difference, but Arsenal would still have a lead and City have a difficult game 14 May AWAY, so I would not worry:+1: & note my use of capital letters for the word "IF"Pep wants Champions League more than EPL anyway
Also to save making a new post which competition do the fans want the most , at start of the season Champions Lg or Premiership? In the “Good old days” 60’s 70’s 80’s domestic was priority, but times have changed changed.
Oh @anon06 I am just an oldie fashioned gal and it has to be about the Premiership and this country for me!!!
I remember my father and Saturday afternoons with his Littlewoods standing order football pools form glued to the results on our black and white TV.
Hi Guys,
That mob of mine the Foxes tried to do the Gunners a favour by wearing out Man City’s reserve stocks of shots on goal. Man City only bettering them by 2 goals - is that a sign of a collapse in form? LOL.
I found myself in Leicester city centre the day it was confirmed they won the league… absolutely buzzing night.
As a villa fan it’s certainly been a rollercoaster of a season but really chuffed at how well unai emery is doing. I wanted him when smith left and before gerrard.
Really hope dean smith keeps Leicester up, he still highly regarded by villa fans and is a legend but took us as far as he could.
I think this season has been great and I love how unpredictable it’s been.
@Rammie18
Interesting comments about Smith, I did not know he was regarded that highly (being an outsider myself ). I only know he was sacked by teams. @Erica
Also as for myself I’m still coming to terms with having to support Liverpool against Leeds, although Utds result was of MASSIVE advantage to Everton.
“Come on you R****”
I can only say the letter R and nothing comes out after that!
Added after full time
Delighted that Liverpool won 6-1
Delighted reluctantly though!
feel guilty and a bit weird,
Im not buying a red scarf and may see my Doctor for medication to stop me saying “Go on Sala!”
Hi @anon06 I had great feelings of sadness seeing Tony Adams on Strictly, a real legend, His whole life now seems to revolve around the ‘good old days’ and perhaps he might have gone on there because he needed the money.
Though Steve Bruce should get credit for saving a sinking ship when we were in the championship, Smith did a fantastic job getting us promoted (an amazing season) and keeping us up in the Prem. he reconnected the fans with the club. But we have ambitious owners and a lot of wealth at the club and as much as smith is a “man manager” tactically he didn’t have enough to compete and take us into the top ten and play at a consistent level.
Villa fans will always have a soft spot for smith and grealish too. We all want him to return once he’s had his city fix.
You just don’t know sometimes … Europa lg, Champions League, more trophies, Grealish return, its a possibility, he is Villa born and bread and he would thrive under your quality manager. How do you feel about Philippe Coutinho, he was linked with Everton, but chose Villa, I was disappointed. Ive heard mixed opinions about him, what do you think?
Also people are talking Liverpool and Champions League, Villa are above them, why not Villa in Champions League?
We’ve never signed a player of coutinhos calibre and though he’s been on a decline from his glory days… I can see why no other team has been in for him. All villa fans were excited and hoped he would do well but like his post Liverpool career injuries had hindered his consistency and influence and in his absence we’ve changed the manager that recruited him and developed tactics and game plans that don’t suit him. Successful football requires 11 players playing 100% 100% of the time and a manager that can see things before they happen and knows how to adapt. Games changed to a whole another and new level to what it once was. For good or worse… time will tell…
Villa are punching well above expectation at the mo and the fact we play everyone around us… makes its an anxious and nervous time to the potential rewards… it’s scary to think it’s in our hands to qualify for Europe regardless of which competition (personally I’d prefer the europa league or conference). We shall see…
@Rammie18
On the subject of "That type of player ". James is a free agent and I would be tempted to bring him back to Everton, past his best, wouldn’t work hard, but he could provide the class under Dyche teams, that would run through a brick wall.
Limpar was the same in the 90’s for us.
In the 80’s Everton had a similar scenario with Sheedy, all hard working classy team(s) and Sheedy provided the finesse, another player not noted for hard work AT ALL, but! Same can be said for Lineker but!
Philippe Coutinho although in his later years could be a similar assest to us if he does not fit in at Villa (not needing to work hard combined with work horses), but as you say you need ELEVEN players all busting a gut to succeed.
Also I 'm sure @Iain may have fond memories of Lineker at Leicester (was it obvious he would go on to be that great even then?) and I’m sure @Erica has fond memories of Limpar at Arsenal
Lineker at 9 and Shilton at 1 both were class for their ages and went on to prove it. Worthington and Weller and his tights left their mark on the clubs history. Some often forget the like of Nish. Leicester have had a fair bit of quality in their time but until recently a nearly team.
Lineker stripped to his shorts on TV when ‘his team’ won the Prem. I wonder if he’ll put them on his head if they go down?
@Iain
Thanks for your contribution its interesting to hear from other fans. Would that be Frank Worthington? Ibe not heard of Weller Can you explain reference to tights?
On another subject perhaps @Erica@Rammie18 and all those who wish to contribute could select their top 20 legends of football based on their era eg Im 47 so players such as Charlton, Best & Law would not be included. It would be good to discuss & debate.
Yea I missed the goal. Infact it was a Limpar cross or Mat Jackson, Stewart missed it I heald my head up in dispear and Rideout scored with a header off the bar I seen the celebration, but missed the goal!
Frank ‘Wortho’ Worthington a quality forward recognised through much of his career by his flowing locks. No manbun or alice band for him. He could have provided enough extra hair to make Charlton a wig .
Keith Weller another class midfield/centre ve to Filbert St from Chelsea
He teamed up with Jon Sammels and Birchinall.
The reference to tights stems from a televised match. A very cold period of weather and hard pitch. Weller played in tights and caught commentators and press with what has been suggested the first to wear tights. I must at this point clarify they were black bottoms as would be worn by Goalies and not his wifes panty hose
Hi @anon06 Tee Hee I have more footballers to choose from than most, p.s. I have now realised that it is a disadvantage !!!
Bobby Charlton
Bobby Moore
Stanley Matthews
Harry Kane
George Best
Geoff Hurst
Marcus Rashford
Mo Salah
Ian Wright
Peter Shilton
Gary Lineker
Dennis Bergkamp
Ashley Cole
Ryan Giggs
Michael Owen
Rio Ferdinand
Nigel Winterburn
Thierry Henry
Frank McLintock
Patrick Vierra
Oh, let’s go for it, I keep on putting players on the list, then taking them off to get back to 20, it’s really difficult and they are in no particular order.
I apologise to all those brilliant players that I have omitted or have not come to mind…yet.
