I’m 47, more difficult than I thought
Cantona, Greame Sharp, Robbie Fowler, Rud van Nistelrooy, David Seaman Ian Wright Rudd Gullit
Harry Kane (member of local amateur dramatics society, according to roumors) Robert Pires, were hard to leave out. To justify my choice I have included at least 7 Captains, I look forward to other choices. I started watching the game mid 1980’s and have tried not to be bias, more Everton players than most, but Rooney & Lineker left the club, Lineker was only at Everton for one season and is more associated with Leicester, Spurs and Barcelona & of course England. Rooney made his mark at Everton and returned to the club, but I picked him for his Man Utd exploits and England exploits.

To confirm I mean 20 legends who have played in England’s top division.

Erica,
Where’s Charlie George in your list?

@Iain @Erica
Each to their own but by reputation and a list created by an Arsenal fan, its surprising hes not included.
Id put him above Wrighty & Adams if he was in my lifetime for obvious reasons as stated below :joy:
THAT GOAL in the cup final 1970s deserves his inclusion alone, I would anyway😂 Especially for who it was against! Such an iconic celebration as well flat out on Wembley pitch!
@Rammie18 ,& Ian I look forward to ur selection as well and I bet I can gues one of them!

If you really want to know @Iain I have not got the technical knowledge that you, @anon06 @Rammie18 and @diana have but I know who I like, although I found it very difficult to cull my list back to 20.
Yes, there is an Arsenal bias and I don’t apologise for that !!
Personally I never liked Charlie George, I don’t know why.
I was born in 1950 and we were lent a TV in about 1956 and on Saturday afternoons I had to sit and watch the sport silently as my father worked days and/or nights from our the living room.
I know Sir Stanley was ending his main career soon after then, but he played his senior career with Blackpool then Stoke till 1965. His built up reputation was so great that he was continually talked about and quite the celebrity with him in his vertically striped Stoke kit and he left quite an impression on me.
Grandstand also got me watching motor sport, darts, snooker, tennis and boxing.

Fair comment each to their own, I only made my comments in jest because he scored against Liverpool, infact I was tempted to include Michael Thomas at the last minute for that reason. Although Thomas went onto play for Liverpool, both should have statues outside Everton’s ground
Your choices were very good.

Could not resist @Erica

I’m not bias honestly :blush::rofl:

Brilliant, thanks so much for this @anon06 so many great names on the pitch and what a result and Michael Thomas cements his place in the history books.

While people make their minds up about top 20 legends, does anyone have any thoughts on VAR
VAR=Video assisted referees
Rule = Var can overrule if ref makes clear & obvious error
Ref has option of looking at monitor only if advised though. Someone makes foul behind the refs back, its not a clear and obvious error by him as he does not see it A foul can go unpunished, how is this helping the game? Law should be tweaked, making it COMPULSORY the ref should look at screen, that’s the only intervention VAR guys should have.

Premier league and EFL every time for me, although I do enjoy watching the final stages of CL.

I agree about Dean Smith, especially as he comes with the Shakespeare/ JT ‘package’. He could well keep Leicester up. The job that Emery has done with Villa is all the more impressive when he was so vilified at Arsenal - lots of talk about him not being up to scratch for English football. I hope he gets a long run with them.

I can’t argue with most of the names that have been suggested. I’d add Matt Le Tissier (even though he’s gone crazily anti-vax these days). Pretty much all the Invincibles squad would get in. I grew up with my father and brothers talking about the up and coming Bobby Charlton, and also his brother Jack, rather under rated. Currently I’d add Virgil van Djyk, Kevin de Bruyne, Aaron Ramsey - always difficult to find goalies in these lists. Martin Odergaard is pushing to be on this list too. There are lots more I’m sure. Talking of goalies, I know he’s not PL anymore, but Thibauld Courtois was underrated when in the PL, and has come into his own since leaving. And of course I shouldn’t forget Gareth Bale in his prime.

Matt Le Tissier was a player who was a one club man I’ll always respect that!

Now legend is a very subjective thing, be it personally impressed by, told by the media or
it is really historic. My initial random ‘Team’ is based on my old man reminiscing mode. It’s the Christian names that fade with time they’ve screwed my mind LOL.
So here goes:-

Billy Bremner
Norman Hunter
Ron ‘Chopper Harris’
Harry Gregg
Trevor Francis
Peter Lorrimar
Alan Clarke
Tommy Lawrence
Pat Jennings
Steve Perryman
Dave Mackay
George Best
Viv Anderson
Jim Baxter
Stan Bowles
Kenny Burns
Derek Duggan
Eddie Gray
Terry Yorath
Jo Jordan
Gordon McQueen

Man Utd, Notts Forest, Derby, Leeds had their moments and influence on my memory.

Can’t argue with that, some very iconic names. Very good choices and thanks for your contribution

Derek Duggan, did he play for Wolves at one point or am I getting mixed up?

I do believe he did. The ‘Doog’ was a NI international forward.

Yes thought so, I believe he was involved with the teams of 1950’s pioners of Europe when the rest of England turned its nose up at Europe.

Good old fashioned powerful no nonsense forward with a touch of class.
As I say what makes them a legend may not extend beyond their club or their era.

Now I’ve got to get my addled :brain: to remember a few more. Might need a bit of lateral thinking

Based on peoples top 20 legends, perhaps people could form 11 players as a team and 7 subs?
