My current thinking but picking England 1966 squad might be thought not being ‘in the spirit of tis game’ LOL

@Iain
Ive drafted mine anyway, just not sure how many 1966 players to include. Bobby Moore is the obvious one, although Im debating between Moore or Hansen to play alongside Ratcliffe, each to their own, but my mind is made up on Ratcliffe, they were all captains to further justify my choice. Alan Ball may be another, although Ive not noticed him in any selections. At the moment my midfield looks very strong, but would they play well as a team?
Btw @Erica and @diana that was a quiet game tonight :joy: On paper Southampton may be happier, although both your teams I imagine will be disappointed with the 3-3 draw, yet a loss for Saints or Arsenal would of been unthinkable!

Arsenal certainly are teasing their followers. As for Saints thats a point nearer to Leicester Forest and Everton. :roll_of_toilet_paper:

In the Prem both top and bottom there are some scraps to come. Squeaky bum.
At the bottom end this weekend has Saints 1 point; Toffees 1 point, Foxes 3 points and Forest nil point.
Foxes v. Leeds on next Tuesday and if I’ve got my diary right its Toffees v. Foxes the following Monday (I assume the MNTV match.
Could be goal difference ultimately counting at both ends.

@Iain
Yes your right.
On paper Everton did well today 1pt away with ten men. Your team winning put Everton in bottom three.
But Like I said a while ago, a teams destiny is dertermined by that team, not by the opposition. Everton have had too many silly results this season. That’s my overall conclusion

@Iain to add I don’t think it will be goal difference, because there are too many "six pointers " left to be played, it’s impossible to think they will all be drawn.

Also you may have similar feelings about your own team as to why they are in this position, "silly results ". I’m mystified as to how a team managed by Brendan Rodgers could be in this position. Infact I’m mystified as to why they sacked Claudio

What a weekend! Well done Foxes - the only bottom five team to take all 3 points. There are some tricky games coming up but I’ve got a feeling you’ll escape. How I wish we’d taken all three against Arsenal (though I am still hoping they’ll somehow hang on and beat City to the top - a waning hope I’m afraid). After Newcastle’s performance yesterday I’m dreading Saints meeting them - I fear that will seal our fate. It’s the hope that kills you - just when all Saints fans are resigned to relegation we get a game like Friday’s.
I watched both FA Cup semis and felt so sorry for Brighton. You just knew that Man U would win once it went to ET.
I guess the next entertainment will be watching Spurs and Chelsea appoint new managers!

Going by expectations Man U were favourite so yes I would agree, yet Brighton stood firm and had chances themselves in extra time. Some could argue that Utd had more experience to hold nerve in shootout, as proven, but another argument is anyone can miss in a shoot out, especially in sudden death and Brighton Im sure will get deserved credit for both taking it to extra time and sudden death penalties.

I think credit should be given to Man U going second in the first phase of shootout, because they needed to score to survive and ultimately qualified for the final.

I’m sure it will be a great occasion on Cup Final Day.

Hi Guys,
Foxes win was a slight relief but not quite a matter for rejoycing yet.
anon06, your ref to ‘6 pointers’ I recogise that popular phrase, I’ve used it myself but with so many bunched at the bottom anyone of them can rise and fall in a flash from other resultsas it always has.

But Oh! If they did designate a match a 6 pointer I’d love those 6 points on a win but as we know
a).it doesn’t happen, but if it did
b) any other close table clash, top or bottom would be totally mad and send the betting brigades and the Media Pundits ìnto a frenzy!

Imagine any match between top 4 against each other or bottom 4 against each other, say in the last 4 league matches are double points.
Man City v. Gunners getting an instant 6 point gap. Imagine Saints passing all above them on one win against any of the current bottom 5 teams.

The league as said runs to May so lots of twists yet.

Yes still a lot to play for

Also @Erica @Rammie18 @diana once legends top 20 names and teams have been finalised may I suggest each team is given a name and a manager + backroom staff are selected, it would add to the fun. Mabye some of us could design kits and merchandise as well

To everyone I would now like to broaden the choice to outside top English League @Erica @Ian @diana should people want to make changes.
I was not able to edit my original 20, but swop Beardsley for Messi from my original 20. The majority of my final xI will be British or played in EPL. Thanks fo picking Cafu, because I couldn’t make my mind up about right back @Rammie18

Good choices nice inclusion of players beyond English League.

@Rammie18 @Iain were Paolo Maldini and Roberto Carlos left backs? Who was more authodox. To be honest I’ve not completely made my mind up and may pick Pearce at left back.

Roberto Carlos was a fullback and I think he played on the left. The other I’m trying to recall the player yet alone their position.

I’ve got to be honest my head struggles with the South Americans, especially Brazilians cutting/changing their name. You know a player christened and registered Miguel Stephano Paulo could play as Nobby.

Roberto Carlos had an abundance of skill, Pearce had skill, could go forward but was hard as nails as well and I imagine would provide solidity alongside attacking defenders, he was also a captain . If Maldini was a left back he may replace Pearce but I’m undecided on this position. Ive virtually decided on Cafu as right back. At the moment I must decide between "Best Of British " or 50% split between British, players and imports

Maldini played left back but moved centre as he got older.

Went for a mix of footballers as I grew up were my heroes and a few cheeky newer ones who just make me smile when I see em on the telly
