Hello has anyone here had to have surgery with a general anaesthetic that is not related to Follicular lymphoma? Do the surgeons, anaesthetists need to consider anything different for you as a blood cancer patient? Please let me know if you have experience of this or any tips! Much appreciated
Hi @Kimmie17. I had major abdominal surgery, totally unrelated. It all went fine and the lymphoma didnโt come in to it. I suppose that might be different in the current climate? Have you got a pre op coming up where you can ask all of your questions?
Thanks for the reply! Iโm waiting for my pre op appt so I can ask the nurse. My cons said Iโd be given antibiotics.
I was given antibiotics afterwards just in case of infection but not sure if that was due to the lymphoma or what they normally do? Let me know what they say x
Hi @Kimmie17, I have CLL and I have had a hysterectomy under general anaesthetic, a skin cancer op on my head, with skin graft from my leg, under local anaesthetic and a multiple teeth extraction op under local anaesthetic and every time I have told them about my CLL and then reminded them again and I have been given courses of antibiotics, my teeth were before, during and after.
I have found it is best to take responsibility for it, they tend to ask if I am allergic to any antibiotics, not have you got blood cancer, although I know both are in my notes obviously.
You take care of yourself and please let us know how you are.
Thank you for replying! I am finding wherever I go I have to say โIโve got blood cancerโ. It happened this morning for my flu vaccine. When I asked if it was a live vaccine she wanted to know why I needed to know.
Very frustrating @Kimmie17!
Extremely and very concerning!
I am afraid @Kimmie17 that seems to the case, I would prefer to keep on telling the medical profession than not to get the appropriate care.
Yes, youโre absolutely right!
