Going to a spa

Hi, I am currently having chemo for classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Once I’ve finished treatment I’d love to go to a spa but I have it my head that we have to be cautious about massages, steam rooms, heated pools etc after having lymphoma? Am I imagining this? I thought I’d read it somewhere but can’t see anything specific online now. Has anyone been given advice either way by any of your medical teams?

Very good question @CHL123 and I hope someone will be able to share their experiences on here.
But as you say at the end of your post perhaps it is a very good question for your medical team as they know you holistically.
Not quite the same but I was told by my GP to be very careful of altitudes and I really need fresh air as I get very feint, ‘muggy’ days are also difficult and personally a steam room would be out for me.
This is a personal reply as I am not a medical person,
Look after yourself and please do let us know how you get on

In my view I think it’s is best to ask your treating clinician . Many spas will not treat you I have found. I am five years post treatment and still struggle to get anywhere to treat me without a letter from my Dr. There is lots of conflicting advice about whether it is advisable or not and I would read up on it and make your own decision. Some research suggests moving lymph around is not advised others says there is no evidence to support this. I think it’s what you feel brings you most benefits. My spa provides me with fantastic facials and that is the only treatment they will offer me even then they are very gentle in the neck area, and I haven’t had massages since my treatment. I guess it depends if your have achieved remission too which I haven’t. As always I think seek medical advice on your own circumstances and the spa should guide you.

I do use pool, steam rooms and saunas now that I am out of treatment and my immune system is ok but again I think that is a check for your team. I think about covid times about places that closed due to infection risk and these are the places that I think about avoiding when my immune system is compromised.
