I really love being a Forum Support Volunteer as I feel our forum is the supportive place that I really needed when I was first diagnosed and felt so lonely and the only person in the world in my situation.
I know what it would have meant to me that someone had just taken the time and care to read my post and reply supportively.
I am happy, if I feel it will help someone, to share my own experiences, fears, thoughts emotions and practicalities as I have come to the the realisation that whatever our connection to any blood cancer is that those are often our similarities.
To me the joys of our Forum Support Volunteers role are that we work from home, flexibly, we do not need a medical training and we are also fully trained and supported by the Support Services Team.
I love it to. It was so important to me to have a space where I could say how really was for me and to have people that understood.
I love giving this back to other people. It helps me as well as others.
I’ve never felt on my own and I think that’s the most important part of being a forum volunteer. It was the best decision I ever made! X
