Dear all, wishing you the very best can I please pose a question. My extreme tiredness normally runs in cycles. But this time round it has lasted more than 7 weeks. Should I force myself to be active or just wait till I feel better? I normally cook, go to the gym and even work for two days a week. But this has not been possible recently. Any advice is welcome.
Once again best wishes Eddie1.
Hi @Eddie1 great to hear from you again , although it sounds as if you are having a tough time.
Firstly, have you spoken to your specialist nurse, if you have one, or a member of your medical team, it sounds to me as this your pattern of extreme tiredness (fatigue?).
I attach some Blood Cancer UK information on fatigue.
Fatigue | Blood Cancer UK
Carina’s fatigue story | Blood Cancer UK
Others, including myself, find a diary works well.
Including what you have done and then how/when it affects your fatigue.
I have realised that I do not deal with what personally stresses me well and I can be affected by emotional, psychological, medical and practical issues. My fatigue can come on immediately, or up to 48ths later,
Sometimes I need a nap, sometimes duvet dive and other times reasonable fresh air and exercise.
Basically I reckon I needed to get to know myself and how I tick.
No magic answers, we are all different, I reckon.
Be kind to yourself and look after yourself, please do keep posting
Dear Erica, thank you so very much for your encouraging words. I shall have a look at both links again and heed some of the advice you offer based on your own experience. Best wishes Eddie
Good Morning @Eddie1,
Lovely to hear from you, though I am sorry you are having struggles with fatigue. @Erica has given you some great advise already! I just wanted to reiterate talking to your team, keeping them in the loop with how you are feeling is so important and perhaps they would be able to offer further support.
Erica has given you some great links and I just wanted to add this previous ‘ask the nurse’ thread we did on fatigue, it has some great hints and tips so I tend to recommend it as a good read - Ask the Nurses - Managing fatigue - General chat - Blood Cancer UK Online Community Forum
You can always give us a call if you would like to talk anything through, our number is 0808 2080 888.
Best Wishes,
Heidi (Support Services Nurse)
Dear Heidi,
Thank you very much for your reponse and encouragement. I shall follow the links and will definitely contact Guy’s Cancer Centre.
