I have recently been diagnosed with high grade non Hodgkin lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell. The lymphoma is in my maxillary sinus and nose, and there is some bone erosion. I am due to start chemo next Thursday. Does anyone else have lymphoma like this in this area? It seems it is unusual so i am keen to hear other peoples experience if possible. In the meantime the psychological impact of this happening to me is tricky. I feel lots of very negative emotions.
Hi @LuckyDucky and thank you for posting.
As you highlight, the psychological effect of the diagnosis can have as big affect as the physical symptoms.
I hope others are able to share their experiences with you. You will find the forum a great support as you can say how it really is for you.
I know my emotions were all over the place when I was diagnosed. It was difficult to navigate everything. Often, you don’t have time to process the diagnosis before treatment starts.
Remember the support line is there if you need to talk things through.
Please take good care of yourself x
Hi @LuckyDucky
I am really sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis
I have a different diagnosis so can’t give any wise words about that am so sorry
I can empathise with the way it’s making you feel though and recognise that feeling of trying to process it all .Write everything down , all of your questions and worries and try not to google if you can help as it gives such conflicting information… it ends up feeling even more terrifying
A friend recommended try to find 1 good thing everyday and it can be a struggle but I find if I do this it can help me feel a little more positive and helps my mood
Here’s hoping your treatment goes well, let us know how you are getting on and we are here for a chat or a vent anytime
I always try to find one goood thing in everyday. Someone suggested it and it really does help
Thank you for replying Nicola75. That sounds like a simple and doable action. I will do this.
Oh @LuckyDucky I am so glad you have found us.
I cannot help on the medical side and @Nichola75 @DottieB have given you great welcomes and responses, but I do remember the negative emotions and the impact being tricky.
I was diagnosed with another blood cancer 20 yrs ago and I think that my emotions have been on high alert and conflicting ever since. I remember the ‘why me’s’ and the’ what if’s’, my whole world was suddenly upside down and what I foresaw as my future wasn’t.
Anyway yes, write all your fears, questions and practicalities down to ask at your next appointment. No question is a silly question.
Keep asking for clarification till you get the answers you understand, you are entering the unknown and I think that is scary.
I love @DottieB thought of at least one good thing every day.
Look after and be ever so kind to yourself and please do keep posting how you are doing.
Hi DottieB, Thank you for replying. Thanks for your kind words. It is difficult trying to process all the information and the advice. I do avoid Google and I limit my information intake to only that which I know specifically affects me. I am working on changing how I think about the chemo, and the words I use, which isn’t easy when I’m feeling so negative. Anyway, thank you again for your reply.
Hi Nicola75. Thank you for your reply. That is pretty much how I’m feeling. The mental side is hard. So many horrible thoughts. Also I’m scared of the chemo. I’m dreading it. But I’m grateful for the chance of a cure. Navigating all that is tricky.
Thanks again.
I completely understand @LuckyDucky
Chemo is scary and can leave you feeling so unwell …even though we know it’s for a good reason and can be positive, dealing with all that Chemo can bring must be so difficult sometimes
Try to be kind to yourself and take care
Let us know how you are doing
Big hugs , best wishes
Hi Erica. Thank you for your reply. I have replied to the 2 people you mentioned. I don’t know whether i did it right or not!
Thank you for your tips. I have taken note of them. Thanks for your help.
Oh, you are posting perfectly @LuckyDucky please keep doing so and really look after yourselves xx
