Good evening everyone.
I’ve been on Oxycarbomide for 18 months now, I’ve suddenly developed a really bad metallic taste.
Does anyone else have this?
Any help/ advice woukd be appreciated. It’s driving me mad
Oh @May14 that metallic taste must be really horrible.
I hope others can share their experiences for you.
I always believe in contacting my specialist nurse or medical team first to check out any symptoms that I get. Then it would be my GP.
The Blood Cancer UK support line is also there for you on 0808 2080 888
Really look after yourself and please do let us know how you get on.
Hi @May14,
Thank you for posting. Sorry to hear that you have developed a metallic taste in your mouth with hydroxycarbamide. I am not surprised it is driving you mad.
I am sure you will get lots of advice from others who have experienced the same symptom, but I just wanted to share a few tips from our website section on changes to your sense of taste that you might find helpful.
*Keep your mouth clean and brush your teeth well.
*Rinse your mouth with water before and after eating.
*If tea and coffee taste bad, you could try herbal or fruit teas instead.
*If food tastes metallic, metal cutlery might make it worse. Try using plastic cutlery instead. Avoid food that is stored in cans.
It also might be worth letting your haematology team know, as they might be able to advise you/suggest mouth washes to use.
Take care
Fiona (support services nurse)
