MGUS and HRT for osteoporosis?

Hello, I am 57 and was diagnosed with Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) (IGA lambda) in August following a recent osteoporosis diagnosis. My GP was initially preparing to prescribe low dose HRT to me for osteoporosis, but having found a paraprotein is now seeking an opinion from an endocrinologist. I am also seeing a haematologist on an ongoing basis for Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS). When I asked the haematologist about osteoporosis/HRT/Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS), he was keen put me on bone medication (e.g prolia). Anyone have any experience or information with HRT & Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS)? Thanks in advance.

Hi @SFi and welcome to our forum, I am so glad that you have found us and I will copy it to the Blood Cancer UK nurses @BloodCancerUK_Nurses.
You really show what unique complex beings we are.
I was diagnosed with another blood cancer 20 yrs ago and have never had treatment.
Medical services worked all in their own medical specialisms in those days.
However my GP did say to take responsibility of your own conditions and I did and still do remind each specialism of my other conditions.
Also the menopause was just something you had to go through and was never talked about.
Therefore HRT was never considered.
However I have subsequently been diagnosed with osteoporosis and scoliosis of the spine. I am on regular infusion drips and Vit D.
At 74yrs old I have just been put on targeted oestrogen by my Urogynaecologist.
I probably have not helped at all, I might even have confused you more, but we are all very unique complex beings.
I hope others will be able to share their experiences
The Blood Cancer UK support line is there for you if you need it on 0808 2080 888.
The main thing is that you really look after yourself and please do keep posting, I look forward to hearing more about you

Good morning @SFi

Welcome to our forum & thank you for your post!

It sounds like you are seeing all the correct people/ teams.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of literature on HRT and Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) specifically, but hopefully by speaking to your teams and others on the forum can help. Our colleagues at Macmillan have a page on Prolia if this is helpful to have to read over Denosumab (Xgeva®, Prolia®) | Macmillan Cancer Support

The link added by @2DB is also a great resource.

As Erica kindly mentioned, you can always call our support line on 0808 2080 888 if you would like to talk about things or feel you need additional support. We also have an email address that you can contact us with support@bloodcancer.org.uk

Keep us updated & take care,
Emma (Support Services Nurse)
