Hi, I am recently diagnosed with Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS). Paraprotein levels low but ratio kappa/lamda high. I am 69 years old so don’t have a clue how long I’ve had this condition as it was an incidental finding. I have an appointment for an MRI on 20 December and an appointment with the haematologist on 20 January. I am obviously concerned. I am well at the moment and not having frequent infections, but the high ratio level is most concerning. 142!

Hi @ann03025
I understand that waiting for test results can be a stressful experience. It’s completely normal to feel anxious and uncertain during this time.

Thinking of you
Thank you for replying. I am only anxious because I’ve read that a kappa/lamda ratio of 100 or more is a diagnosis of myeloma. As all my blood results were within normal ranges and my kidney function test was normal I didn’t think I needed to worry very much but I was shocked to read that my ratio of 142.91 was a diagnosis of blood cancer. My bone marrow biopsy results showed only 5% M proteins which my haematologist said was low. It’s like a ticking time bomb! I’m trying to enjoy life but with this thing hanging over me that isn’t quite as easy as it should be.
Morning @ann03025
I have been thinking of you. Its so easy to find a lot of information online, but it can be overwhelming and sometimes confusing. It’s important to remember that everyone’s situation is unique, and online information may not always apply directly to your case.
My advice would be to focus on your communication with your medical team. They have the expertise to interpret your results and guide you through the best course of action.
I googled too much and in the end found it didn’t really help me just confused me.
Your haematologist is the expert: They have all the information about your specific case and can provide the most accurate assessment and guidance.
Don’t hesitate to ask your haematologist or the blood cancer UK nurses any questions you have. They are there to support you and help you understand your condition.
In the meantime, try to focus on what you can control, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing stress.
Remember, you’re not alone in this. The forum is always here to help you cope with your diagnosis and connect with others who understand what you’re going through.
Thinking of you.
