A bit more exposure is always good.
Hi @Rammie18 there is an old saying ‘that all publicity is good publicity’, thanks
Would have been nice if they had expanded the story to actually talk about the symptoms with the correspondent art work. But it is a start.
Thought the exact same thing when I clicked on the article
I was wondering if the BBC employs editors/proofreaders anymore?! Would have been helpful if the information had been checked before publishing as “polycythaemia” doesn’t exist, for example.
As for the art, it’s a pity the hospital/Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) Voice didn’t ask artists who are actual blood cancer survivors to make these 10 sculptures.
I hate this sort of corporate ‘art’ as you can probably tell!
Apologies for my previous super negative comment. Wow clearly having one of those days!
To add something positive I’d say at least therapeutic art is being used in this hospital.
@Rammie18 she is a freelance journalist, so guess it was a quick cover it job to fill the local news page webpage. The here, write 500 words and two photos sort of job that used to fill the local paper. I note the lack of contact details on the piece, which is a shame as there could have been a chance to discuss the issue to inform future coverage.
@Duncan Corporate “art” , the tofu of wall fillers. See it in the interior design world, gallery sales and “safe” disposable art on etsy etc.
@Rammie18 when I checked out the link for the Art exhibition I read an old BBC news article that Researchers in Aberdeen were collecting toe nail clippings to identify a reason for MPNs blood cancers .There is an email address for enquiries ,if that is of any interest to anyone and yourself .
Great to hear from you @Bannanacake, missed you, how are things?
Look after yourself
Ha yes this reads like it was typed up in less than 30 minutes and clearly not written by a health expert or someone who takes very thorough notes!
I must defend tofu though, @clickinhistory! It has far more depth and purpose than most corporate art I’ve seen
Saw that toenail study too, @Bannanacake, and found that very informative. Hope you’re well!
Ha ha ha never seen tofu carved like that! Wonder if it then gets cooked in beer batter and added to an order of chips
Though I’m very much open to ideas… the patience and accuracy needed for this would make my head explode… lol
Hi@Erica thank you for that .
I am trundling along, just had my 4 month blood test and yes looking after myself (most days )it is a work in progress.
I had to laugh when I read your description of turning up for your covid booster.
I had booked the last slot thinking it would give me time to get back from the pool.
Unfortunately got stuck in slow traffic.
I raced in shouting "Am I too late " All Nurses were packing up but one was waiting for me syringe ready
"Dont worry "she said "I will take care of you ".I felt really blessed and isnt that what we all need .
Enjoy the sun and look after yourself too.
