I teach as well and agree, it’s so stressful at the moment. Please let us know how you get on with your results x
Hi @JanCLL it must be so scary for you and I am sorry that you are not doing too good and that you are off sick
Don’t forget if you would like to talk to someone then the Blood Cancer UK support line are there for you, details at the top of the pages and we are here for you as well.
Look after yourself.
I hear your point. To put it bluntly I would not want the country shut down on my behalf. On the subject of restrictions, they are for everyone as it stops the spread. Of course my biggest concern is the vulnerable groups including Blood Cancer patients who have been forced to chose between health and earning a living. “GO with caution was the message and keep country moving”, good in theory, bad in practice, I know of eye witness accounts were some people are not sensible, but in “fairness” to these people, which other people lifted SO MANY restrictions against the opinion of government scientists?
I think the problem was that so much was lifted embloc when the majority of scientists were constantly warning people including government advisers.
I liked the positivity in your reply however although I do believe more cautious attitudes need to exist in society. Hopefully when a higher % get a third jab things will be better. I would urge caution to everyone though, and people should be more responsible in respect of vulnerable groups regardless of the liftings.
Thanks you for your reply
I think that Boris, and guessing his family (cut,as they say, from the same rather upmarket cloth), don’t think about the others who will get ill and only care about the effects of lockdowns on businesses?Hard to say how the other political party would have gotten on with the problem as they haven’t been in power. It seems from my observation the more right wing the leader and the two examples that spring to mind is Donald Trump and Bolisorio in Brasil the less concern,if any, will be shown for the human effect of coronavirus rather than the economic impact. It isn’t too much to ask for Boris to bring in mask wearing as a start but obviously enforcement is another thing.I told my tale about the train with all the windows shut and on Tuesday I had a similar experience with 2 buses. The first wasn’t too busy but the passengers hadn’t opened a window however I did.The other was around 17hr.and busy as A/it was the natural busy time,B/disruption on the railway ment people had caught the bus, like me!,who would have been on the train.1 window open.As I said before almost as if they want to catch something?!As my Dad would have said,“their brains are brand new!”
Dare I ask, but would anyone like to express an opinion on travel restrictions lifted for the final 7 red listed nations?
More likely those countries should be worried about people coming from here to there than the other way around!
I am glad some people feel that they can get on with life despite the risks but no one should blame themselves if they are more cautious or in a more scary situation because of their work or circumstances. I don’t expect the whole world to close down because I and people like me have no response to the vaccine but i do not see why I should not ask for some mitigations like mask wearing on public transport and in certain crowded public spaces like shops why is that so difficult if most European countries can do it and Scotland also
Good reply I echoed your sentiments in a previous post, scroll up
Always glad to hear like minded individuals.
It is normally easier for us to change are own actions/responses, than to get others to do so,
Those that are concerned, maybe look into getting FPPE2/3 masks, which give the wearer greater protection,
And, if you are looking to get the government to do something, would it be easier to petition for fppe2/3 masks to be available on prescription for those who are immunosuppressed.
Most of us with these problems, will be on free prescriptions, or are already buying yearly prescriptions for their meds, so then it would be no extra cost.
Thanks got any links for FPPE2/3 masks
I found link but it dooes not say FPPE2/3, I am reluctant to post link incase its judged as advertising
sorry, I put an extra E in it, it should be FPP2 and FPP3, not sure how to send you info outside publishing it here
you can get disposable ones,
edited - I don’t think you can get re-useable ones with filters
Is one better than the other my instincts say “no3”
Hope I can post this, it’s a bbc news webpage, which says about the differences, fpp3 is best
you will need to make sure they fit you properly, but that are much better than the normal cloth, or fpp1 ones, which are the standard blue disposable ones
When u say about fitting properly do tgey come in sizes & which is best valve orvno valve
I also bought some FFP3 masks on-line, on the advice of my consultant. They have several filter layers, and I am very happy with them - but my glasses still mist up when I wear them.
Did u get valve or no valve ones and do they come in sizes?
I think the valve helps with breathing, rather than any protection either way,
If you have a beard, or an extra large or small face, you might get a bad fit, but I think that they have been getting better more recently, so they should fit most,
but I am definitely not an expert
I bought a cloth from the optician to wipe over the lenses… It works a treat stopping misting up completely and cost a fiver so not too dear either
I absolutely agree that it is easier to change one’s own actions than trying to persuade others and I use the FFP2 masks myself but if we always took the view that we could not influence the actions of others progress would be limited in all fields - think women’s rights, safety on the streets etc. The clinically extremely vulnerable groups have effectively lobbied in other countries and retained mitigations. Our voice should be heard then others can ignore or disagree if they wish but if our voice is seldom heard why should it ever be taken into account. Which is why I applaud everyone who tries to be an agent of change like th e poster on another thread who has written and been published in the press and all of us who have or are trying to effect change in our own workplaces or communities. Laisser faire no not for me!
It’s certainly a worrying time and I don’t envy anyone who is working in a school right now. It’s bad enough working in a university. None of the students are wearing masks. The current situation is not sustainable and I suspect some sort of restrictions will be coming into place in the next month or so.
