Today I shared this on social media in the hope that maybe somewhere it helps one person not having to live through what has brought many of us to this site.
Anyone else pushing the information out into the world beyond this site?
Today should have been my 10th wedding anniversary to an amazing woman who came into my life some years before we married. Instead we are in the final stages of our divorce.
My cancer is rare (12,000 known cases in the UK), chronic and could mutate into another cancers and is called #polycychaemiavera . (Polycythaemia vera (PV))
It creeps up on you, hides behind many other symptoms, from those listed below to mental health issues caused by by the low oxygen levels and the fear of knowing you are ill and have no answers for the multitude of symptoms, such as sudden shortness of breath, shakes (this cancer is a calorie hoarder), always falling ill to colds, tummy bugs, starting to become fearful of doing things as you no longer trust your body, tolerance levels go out of the window, closing down on others, pushing others away. Repeat visits to doctors yield no answers because blood tests look for one thing rather than joining up the dots.
Others are severe, migraine-type headaches
changes in vision
feeling very tired (fatigue)
feeling dizzy
itchy skin (often after a warm bath or shower)
sweating more than usual
burning pain, change in feeling, or redness in the hands or feet
cold or blue fingers or toes
redness of the face
bone or joint pain
unexplained weight loss
high temperature (fevers) and drenching night sweats requiring a change of clothes or bed covers
discomfort in the tummy area (abdomen)
feeling full soon after beginning to eat. Bleeding gums, tiny red dots on the skin, heavy periods for women, changes in #penile function in men.
If you spot these changes in someone you know, please reach out and talk to them get them to ask for a full blood test looking for the #jak2gene #mutation
