I finished the methotrexate and was released Monday. I found it fine I didn’t have any side effects luckily. I hope your mum handles it well, make sure to keep ontop of her oral hygiene as can cause really sore mouth.
I’m 67.
Car T involves removing white cells from the blood. These cells are then sent to the drug company’s lab where they are modified to fit a receptor on the surface of the cancer cells. The modified white cells are then re-infused into the patient where they attack the cancer cells. Unfortunately they also attack healthy cells so there are side effects - I was in ICU for a few days and then had neurotoxicity. The process has been used in younger patients for over 5 years, but the drug for older patients with ALL was only approved for use by the NHS last year so there is not much long term data. It is very expensive so is generally used only when chemotherapy has been ineffective. I had 3 rounds of chemo (UK60, UK60+ and UK14) none of which had any effect on my ALL.
Mum is on 60+ and is mrd negative. Just wish this was all over for her. Xx
The fact she is MRD negative is fantastic news it means it’s working for her! There are much worse positions to be in.
