I went to the hospital about ankle pain last Monday. They did a routine blood test to diagnose the issue, whilst checking my blood the lab noticed some abnormalities in my blood count, it is -77 and i have had a bruise on my arm since the blood tests i had a second one for the hematology referral. I am always tired even when rested, i looked at the bruise today and there is purple/red spots on it and a scratch that came out of no where, i am really worried and my elbow has started hurting for no reason
Hi @jmattox89 a great big welcome to our blood cancer forum.
We cannot give you a diagnosis, only medical experts can do that.
Do you know when your appointments are yet?
What I and many of us do empathise with is the shock, anxiety and the worst part the waiting game. I know my mind goes off in all directions and usually the worst scenarios. One thing I have learnt is the internet can be so useful, but also has a lot of unreliable information out there
Have you got support from family and friends?
I have found the Blood Cancer UK support line is marvellous if you feel the need for a chat.
In the meantime if you are worried about your symptoms, you get any more or they get worse please do get medical advice.
Now is your chance to note all your symptoms and fears and questions you might wish to ask.
Also note any medical history, medications you might be on and any allergies you might have, Those are very frequently asked of you.
In between look after yourself and be ever so kind to yourself.
Hello and welcome to the forum. @Erica has given you such good advice.
I can sense how worried you are and that’s so understandable. It’s hard not to go to the worst case scenario as well, I know I’m guilty of that!
As @Erica said, be careful with Google. The temptation is always there but use reliable sources such as this website or give the helpline a call.
We all understand how hard waiting is so keep sharing and keep us updated x
Hi @jmattox89
I’m so sorry you’ve got such a weighty and frightening issue on your mind. And it’s really awful waiting for news. I really do empathise with you - have been there and had that horror wait myself.
Until you get some further news, I hope you can distract yourself a little, and treat yourself well. I can’t better the above advice.
The only thing I can add is that even should you get a blood disorder diagnosis, that can mean many things, and there are some very successful treatments. We’re all hoping that you are ok, and we’re thinking of you.
Please post again if a chat would help.
All the very best.
@jmattox89 welcome and hope you’re ok…
I think it’s perfectly normal to feel anxious when you’ve been experiencing symptoms that don’t seem to fade and then getting a referral can sometimes set alarm bells ringing and you start preparing yourself for the worse.
As much as doctors and googling can always draw yourself to the worst, remember that though this maybe the case, it may also be less sinister and you just need to tweek your diet or maybe difficient in iron or potassium or a particular protein that often a specialised blood test can spot and be discussed by a specialist.
Hang in there and as mentioned try and distract yourself by doing happier things til the test results come back.
Regardless, we are all here for you so keep posting and keep us updated
I’ve been thinking of you, how are you feeling and doing @jmattox89 ?
I hope you are taking care of yourself, and we are here if you need us.

@jmattox89 ,sorry missed your 89!
Great that you’re having thorough investigations, @jmattox89. And as Gemma says, it may be a good sign your blood tests haven’t triggered an immediate response from the haematologists.
Everything crossed here that they find out what’s troubling you, and that whatever it is, it is easily sortable.
I hope you’re managing to pass the time and control the anxiety too, and that you can ask all the questions you want to.
Let us know how you get on. Thinking of you.
The nurse has said the doctors in haematology have found out whats wrong with me and coming to talk to me been here since 10 this morning
