Worried i may have blood cancer

im not sure why the doctors in a&e wouldn’t just come to me and give me a diagnosis, i spoke to the nurse when she was giving me a blood test and putting the canular in, do you think it could be cancer and she said thats what they are trying to rule out

Hi @jmattox89 I am so glad that you are home and there is nothing like your own bed, perhaps you just need to rest now and be kind to yourself.
Please keep posting and let us know what your gp says next week.

Hi@jmattox89.In my experience of waiting for test results and especially blood test results some
Can take a while to produce a result.
This is frustrating when all you want is to know now.
You are not alone ,esp with everyone on this forum.
Usually the GP will speak to you as the results will go to your surgery.
My GP talks to me about my results, and I always ask for a copy.
I find its hard to wait ,but if you can find something to distract you in the meantime that will help,as that is what I do,eg a hobby ,reading ,music .
I use the meditations on the BCUK
Support website or as @Gemma said you can call for support up till 1pm at weekends.
I use reliable sources for my information .
I wish you well

I got work at the uni library tonight, only trouble is i have this annoying persistent headache which will not go away. Has anyone else experienced this?? I do hope it isn’t cancer whatever it is, the nurse did say the doctor was happy for me to go home last night. I just don’t know when to phone the GP to have the results

Hi@jmattox89maybe you’re overtired and stressed after yesterday with your mind going over and over ,maybe dehydrated as well that can bring on a headache .But as @GemmaBloodCancerUK said if you’re feeling unwell call 111 to check out with them.
I hope you’re feeling ok for work .
Try a 5 minute meditation but if you’re feeling bad do call 111

Hi @jmattox89

Glad you’re resting at home - you must be physically and emotionally drained.

There’s no harm in phoning your GP every couple of days to see if your results are in - they can always tell you when they think the results will be back.

Headaches are one of those things that can be caused by a thousand things - stress, tiredness and long days included. I hope it shifts with some paracetamol before you return to work. And if it doesn’t, perhaps condider taking the day off work? You’ve had an awful time and could cut yourself some slack, and let yourself have an extra resting day. It depends which would make you feel better - returning to normal, or having a bit more time and rest? And if your headache persists, it’s best to tell your GP when you speak to them.

Hope you get the results soon, and feel better after some You Time. Thinking of you.

i keep passing blood when i go to the toilet too and notice blood on the stools, its not constipation or haemeroids as the doctor has ruled that out on thursday night with the finger finger test…:crazy_face: I tried to make a joke about that as i like making people laugh

Sorry for the late reply

Passing blood could be reaction to dehydration or medication youve taken and your body adjusting to it. Could also be an infection in your kidneys or liver.

They will always investigate worse case scenario of the symptoms and the fact they’ve sent you home is most likely a good sign but I know it wont stop you worrying as if something is wrong you’d rather be in hospital in care than at home worried and concerned.

I was told about my cancer from a specialist rather than my GP. To be honest my GP at the time had no idea what it was or that it was even cancer.

Be sure to rest and take care… Keep posting as we are all concerned about you

If it helps, @jmattox89, like Rammie I was also told about my cancer by a specialist consultant. I don’t think a consultant would leave it to a GP- GPs often don’t know the nitty gritty about particular diseases. And often blood cancer next steps are urgent, and only the consultants can decide how to proceed. So hopefully it’s a good sign that you haven’t an appt with a consultant about these test results, and that they are leaving the GP to discuss them with you.

I’m sorry to hear about your other problem, with bleeding. It’s good that you’ve made a medical professional aware of this and they’ve checked you out. Hopefully the full picture will become clear in the next few days, and perhaps the headache and the bowel issue are not related. There can be so many reasons for these problems. But I can understand your worry when a few issues seem to cluster together like this.

Everything crossed that there’s a happy resolution to your concerns very soon.

All tbe best.

Hi @jmattox89 you are right the vast majority of people on facebook and on here do not have a degree in medicine.
What others on our forum have written is their personal experiences of like symptoms and their interactions with the medical profession which is so useful.
The main thing is that you are now in the medical system.
You must be exhausted and might be dehydrated so perhaps get some rest and be ever so kind to yourself, you have had a lot going on emotionally, physically, medically and practically.
We here on our forum and the Blood Cancer UK support line are here for you.

I still do not know my results either, the gp is taking their time, and maybe the hospital?? The aftercare of the NHS is shocking atm, i also found a lymph node on my groin area which is red not sure what to do about it, wasn’t their last week

Hi @jmattox89 perhaps you do need to get your red coloured lymph node checked out by your GP or GP nurse for peace of mind.
When you ask for an appointment say that this is one of the symptoms you have been told to look out for and your conditions.
At that point you can ask about your results and what the results mean.
Please let us know how you get on?
Look after yourself.

Dear @jmattox89, I am very sorry to hear you are still awaiting an update and that you are not receiving support. I would suggest that you should contact your GP about your headaches and lymph node as these are both important symptoms to be aware of. It must be awful after so may days that you don’t have an answer. Do call us on the support line if you need: Blood cancer information and support by phone and email | Blood Cancer UK Take care Gemma

Hi @jmattox89, glad that you have been referred for an endocrinology.
Perhaps it might be worth you getting your symptoms of nauseous, aversion to light and headaches checked out, even just for peace of mind, please let us know how you get on.

I started suffering from headaches/migraines. Now have medication that has made such a difference. I agree that it’s worth getting them checked out. Have you mentioned it to any medical professionals?

@jmattox89 I am so glad that you got your headaches and migraines checked out and that you are now on medication that has made such a difference.
I don’t realise how rough I have felt till I start to feel better.
You are an example to me.
One less thing to worry about, look after yourself
