Oh what a relief @Venus and I also like to be first in a queue. Yes, local is good, as you say use it or loose it

My specialist nurse arranged for my 4th jab she’s a gem always there if I have any problem or questions
Hi @Alice_BloodCancerUK , my husband is due to have his fourth jab next week. I wondered if it is recommended that it should be Pfizer as was the case for the third dose or is the Moderna vaccine also recommended for the fourth dose?
Hi @Kirsteen, I hope you’re keeping well. Research shows there are no safety concerns about mixing vaccines, so when you have your third dose and your booster, you can safely have vaccines that are different from your previous doses.
The three primary doses of the vaccine should all be full doses. So your third primary dose should be either a full dose of Pfizer (0.3ml) or a full dose of Moderna (0.5ml).
Your booster dose (fourth dose) will be either a full dose of Pfizer (0.3ml) or a half dose of Moderna (0.25ml).
If we can be of any further support please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Thanks
Bav
@Bav.BloodCancerUK, thank you for the useful information.
I think I have posted up thread and elsewhere about my search for a fourth vaccine which has been shall we say eventful. It was to have been this last Saturday but I have been found to have had a myacardial reaction to my third Pfizer vaccine and all bets are now off for the fourth until various investigations tests etc and a Cardiologist confirming it is safe. I am gutted to say the least esp as no problem with previous Astra Zeneca . I am told this reaction which can begin sometime after the vaccination is rare and more common in young men. Apparently Moderna would not help as the reaction is caused by the MRNA process and the older type vaccines like the Astra Zeneca are not currently authorised as boosters in UK. Totally fed up and have to re think some teaching commitments which can ill afford to do.
Oh @Ismo I bet that you are totally fed up and thanks for mentioning the financial impact on you, people often do not talk about that on this forum, but it can obviously add to your anxiety and stress, let alone your ability to pay your outgoings etc.
Keep updating us please and look after yourself.
Hi @Ismo, this must be very frustrating for you. I do hope that the cardiologist is able to give you the test and confirm whether or not you are able to have a 4th jab with one of the MRNA vaccines. It also seems ironic at this time when we are hearing all about ‘personal
choice and personal freedom’ that people can’t be given the Astrazeneca vaccine if it was shown to be suitable for their first two jabs.
Hi Erica
Eventually got my 4th dose. Emailed my GP Surgery for a letter, saying I am immunosuppressed and just got fobbed off. Ended up gathering up medicine box, prescription list and last clinic letter from my haematologist, as others have done, and just went to my nearest Walk-In Centre. No problem, looked at bits and bobs I had taken and was done straight away.
Two things I found on my internet ramblings.
- NHS-UK: Patients with Polycytheamia Vera not on treatment but watch and wait, eligible for 4th dose - but those on treatment (like me) not eligible !!
- On my Clinic Letters from my Haematologist, on the bottom, AFTER her signature there is a standard paragraph about Covid-19 and immunosuppressed people ! Maybe, that’s all I needed, but had not bothered to read before !!
Oh @Beejay I know I shouldn’t laugh but what lengths we have to go to with you lugging your medicine box, prescription list and last clinic letter from your haematologist to your walk-in centre, anyway it worked and I am so. so pleased for you.
Look after yourself and please keep posting.
I have had my 4th vaccine today. Very different atmosphere from 3rd vaccine, yet at the same hospital. Nobody checked my temperature and there was no sitting for 10 minutes to recover. However, when I got home, discovered that our PM is doing away with ALL Covid rules in two weeks - and just when I thought about catching up with 6 medical appointments I have been putting off. Meanwhile, I am going to go ahead with them and if there are further outbreaks of Covid, new variant or not, by the time they kick in, hopefully I will have had all of my appointments sorted.
What a way to live!
@Lulu999 I have been fortunate and I have found all medical appointments at my GP’s and hospital have felt very safe and the high spots of my social calendar.
However I haven’t made appointments with the optician or dentist yet.
Whatever the government announce I will continue to follow Blood Cancer UK and the medical professionals advice.
Me and my mask will not be parted soon and I shall avoid others and social distance until I can see the Covid numbers going down.
Yes, what a way to live.
Thank you for posting your experience. I have only just seen it. I have ET and had no antibodies after 2 jabs but got some after my third and assume i am now better protected after my fourth. It is very reassuring to hear you fought it off with no antibodies. I am being careful to a point but also trying to get back to some sort of normality. Went to my daughters for Christmas lunch. I was quite wary as she has 5 boys so the house was quite full but i am pleased to say all was well. We went to Spain for new year, again all was well. We are currently in Lanzerote where we feel very safe with the covid protocols in place. Not sure how much longer my luck will last especially as i have just heard that people with covid will no longer need to isolate at the end of this month.
I think someone has updated my records, as I had the 4th jab letter today , a proper NHS one - a month after actually having my 4th jab.
(And I had my antiviral letter last week)
My days of pushing uphill against paperwork, and blagging my way through, may now be a thing of the past
yeah!
Oh yeah, yeah @heatherthomas let’s hope so.
Celebrations are in order and look after yourself
4th jab today. No paperwork needed. I rang my Doctor on Friday, and was told to turn up today
Brilliant news @Gary all sorted.
How are you doing and look after yourself
Hello @Erica, not too good the last few days. It’s hard to work out what are side effects and what isn’t. CT scan tomorrow and Oncology appointment next week.
Hope you’re well. Gary
@Gary sorry to hear that you are not too good, please let us know how your scan and oncology appointment go next week.
Don’t forget that if you would like to talk to someone the Blood Cancer UK support line are there for you and so are we on our forum.
Be kind to yourself and don’t forget the waiting is always the worst time
Hi @Beejay glad to hear you got your 4th dose! The general guidance from the JCVI is that people aged 12 and above who have blood cancer should have four vaccine doses (three primary doses and one booster), whether they’re on treatment or not. This includes people with MPNs like Polycythaemia vera.
