Just had my 4th jab!

Had my 4th jab this morning, the booster after 3 primary jabs. I was a bit concerned about whether they would do it as I had my 3rd jab quite early (before the computers could record it properly). However, I was pleasantly surprised - they gave it to me without any fuss. I took all of my paperwork with me (specifically the letter I had from the time of my 3rd jab saying why I needed it) and the nurse checked briefly with the doctor supervising the vaccination center and he quickly nodded his agreement. It does seem like everyone involved is now much more aware of us, and the policies around 3rd/4th jabs.

I see a lot of people on these forums worried about whether they’ll be able to get their 4th jabs smoothly, so hopefully my experience will give you some reassurance, although clearly different areas of the country might be better/worse.

Now I’m just hoping that I start to feel a bit unwell (which I would take as a good sign that my immune system is responding to the vaccine).

That is reassuring. Thank you for posting. I am booked to have my fourth on Thursday. I hope it goes as smoothly as yours

Hi @muppet and @ilivesunshine that is brilliant news, so it seems the rollout of 4th vaccinations to us eligible ones has started, actually I thought it might be delayed with the push to get 3rd vaccinations.
I am letting @Alice_BloodCancerUK know.
Has anyone else heard about there’s?

Just to be clear - I wasn’t called or invited for this, I just booked it on the central website. If I remember correctly, there was an option there that fitted my situation (had 3rd primary jab, need a 4th as booster) and let me book appointments for dates that were 3 months after my 3rd.

I actually think this might all be a lot less complex than the 3rd jabs. This is not really classed as a 4th jab as such, it’s just classed as a “booster after your primary course of vaccines”, so we’re just using the well-established booster system the same as everyone else, rather than it being anything specific to us.

If you think you’re due for one, it’s worth going to the website to book, or calling the booking line.

Thanks @muppet for making the procedure so clear. Take care

I did look on the booking site but it is still saying I am not due anything. Mine is due in early January. I hope others have more luck.

Me too due early Jan @Chrispy thought I’d book in advance sadly not possible and according to the GP I have already had my booster in early October despite the texts and email saying we can book our booster 3 months after third vaccine. Is it possible one part of Health service not talking to the other? However did get text and PCR test by post but it seems that this 3rd vaccine but recorded as a booster problem has not reached my GPs or my PCN vaccination centre yet. Hope blood cancer UK will also have one of those what to do if you cannot get a booster/4th vaccine information strands

Hi I had my 4th vaccine too yesterday thankfully. I just booked through my local health authority in wales on line and informed nurse administering it in clinic when I arrived about my blood cancer and that it was 3 months since last vaccine, did not have to show anything from previous vaccines she just spoke to gp who agreed I was ok to go ahead.
Feel bit achy today and arm sore but so glad I’ve had it.

My gp surgery were unhelpful so I phoned 119 just now. I was told I need to wait until 3 months after my 3rd dose and phone again and they will tell me which local walk-in centre I can go to. She also said I must take the letter I had received telling me I needed a 3rd primary but I don’t have it. I do still have the text message they sent me saying the same thing. Does anyone know whether they will accept that? (the 119 lady thought not)

My husband had his 3rd jab in 30th October (his birthday!) but it wasn’t easy getting it …. surgery knew nothing etc etc, same as lots of people. Then they offered it when he went for flu jab - and they clearly understood the difference between that and booster because she enquired about any treatment cycles. Afterwards we emailed practice manager to check it had been recorded as third dose - which it had. So he’s now due his booster on 30th Jan - and it’s been totally different! Surgery have started having supplies of vaccine and are running almost daily clinics - so we thought we’d be proactive this time. We emailed practice manager again and asked if she could please help by getting him booked in in advance - and they came straight back with an appointment for 28th Jan. Simple as that! Such a relief; so all I need now is the NHS letter re antibody treatment and I can enjoy Christmas.

Hi @NanaNana a great big welcome I am so glad you have found us.
I don’t see why the text message you have would not be accepted, especially if you show it to them with conviction, please do let us know how you get on.
I look forward to hearing more about you?

I think this must depend on where you are living.
I just looked on the NHS website and it’s saying you can’t book the (4th) currently online and will have to wait for your GP or specialist to invite you for one.
Also like a lot of people never had a letter saying I needed to have a 3rd primary dose so it went down as a booster with a note added manually.
As I have received a priority PCR kit it must be logged somewhere that I’m at risk!
I’m due for the booster on 1st Jan.

Glad to hear about your success in obtaining fourth jab. I’m anticipating another stressful fiasco next week when I attempt the same. Not sure why we’re not allowed to book but have to rely on walk in centre accepting our word/medical evidence.

Thank you @Erica that is very kind of you. I think I had a partial response in another thread but for me the problem is that my third vaccine is recorded as a booster and the GPs surgery will not change it. They have nothing to do with Covid although they are part of the PCN which runs the vaccination centre my surgery have opted out as “too busy” so I have no proof even that I had a third vaccine except a NHS text reminding me to have a third vaccine in November when I’d already had the “booster” in October. Still on the plus side I must be in the system somewhere as received the PCR test info etc except of course it is not meant for people with CML. It ought not to be such a battle one feels!

I always think it shouldn’t be a battle full stop but especially as we are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable with all the symptoms that entails. I refuse to use up all my limited energy levels trying to sort it all out. Rant over I feel better now !!!

Had my 3rd at RM after having problems trying to arrange through surgery. Just had invite from RM for my 4th early in Jan - probably invited as they want blood a few weeks later as participating in the capture study. So just need to decide dates.

Hi @myrdin great to hear from you and please let us know how you get on.

I had my 4th yesterday…first of all I rang 119 where there is a dept especially for people with wrongly labeled jabs (foreign ones too) but although they filled out the form to sort out and record that I have had 3rd and now the booster and it is going to take until the end of Jan 22 to get it sorted . Previously my status on the NHS data base was ‘fully vaccinated’ the dept of label regulation put me back to the bookings desk who told me to get a letter from gp or consultant… I tried and tried to get through to hospital and couldn’t so I wrote to gp who, bless him wrote me a note directly and I then went to the walk in vaccine centre locally… Where they fast tracked me past the queue and gave me the jab (which by the way was recorded and accepted as a second booster on the NHS data base) They then sent me to the car to wait so I didn’t stay exposed in the after jab waiting area with a lot of people… I was delighted with my treatment

I have had my fourth jab today. It didn’t go smoothly! My records were checked on the computer and a note came up to say i had had my booster and wasnt eligible for another. This was despite a discussion of the whole sage last week of my third primary being wrongly recorded as a booster. The nurse was very nice but said she had no way of recording my fourth jab as computer said no.

She then came up with a plan!

She made a note to say I had a letter from haematology saying i am eligible for the booster(4th jab). I haven’t actually had a letter but I was t going to argue. I just wanted the vaccine in my arm. She said it won’t be recorded on the national app but it will be on my medical notes that I have had it. Phew!

I’m off to sunny Spain on Sunday Foolhardy maybe but so fed up of all this non stop thinking about covid

I asked the nurse if she knew anything about the tablets to take at home if I catch it but she didn’t so not sure where I would get them from if the worst happens.
