I had a bad fall yesterday. I needed stitches on my lip, damaged two of my teeth, swollen jaw luckily not broken. Hospital thinks wrist may be broken, its in a splint to be x-rayed again in two weeks. On the plus side the meds seem to working as blood kept flowing it took stitches to stop it.
Oh @Liz59 you certainly did have a really bad fall, if you are anything like me it happens so quickly and you might be very shaken up.
Also being one armed brings all sorts of issues I won’t go into.
I also found I really got the sympathy vote because it is so visual.
This is not medical, but I find that tinned custard and ice cream go down best.
Really be kind to yourself and please do let us know how you are doing.
Oh goodness, poor you @Liz59!!! That sounds horrible. Glad you found a positive in your blood flowing well, but I really hope you rest well and recuperate back to health and mobility. Do you have support to help with daily stuff? Might be time to call in favours and/or the kindness of loved ones!
@Liz59 I do hope you are feeling better and not too shaken up
Keep strong!
I’ve been there and got the tea shirt. Mine was/is marrow based interference causing Aneamia and drops in blood pressure.
Sympathise and hope you get your numbers balanced and your physical balance corrected.
Erica, Duncan, PollyVera and Iain, Thank you all for your kindness and support. Swelling on my jaw and lips has gone down and I now have my own personal rainbow on my face. Question for anyone with Polycythaemia vera (PV) . How long did it take to figure out the right dose of Hydrea.? The Hospital has increased my dose for the second time today.
@Liz59 I hear the other guy is still in A&E mixed martial arts Polycythaemia vera (PV) category winner
Topping @Erica and I blame my mum for this one, hot chocolate custard with ice cream on top in the biggest mug you can find.
Works for the shock, the pain and the best moustache.
Take your time recovering, Tyson Fury says he is busy till July but free for a fight afterwards
Oh, @clickinhistory don’t you worry I will be trying out your mum top tip, I have a big mug, but a jug or bowl might be in order!!
Really glad you’re on the mend and finding some humour, but do take it easy! Gently dabbing lavender essential oil onto unbroken skin can help bruising, if you like its aroma. I wonder if you’ll notice your skin healing more slowly—bumps and nicks on my skin seem to take longer to recover for me these days, presumably due to the hydroxyurea.
Speaking of, I’ve stayed on the same dosage since diagnosis, 500 mg once per day. What did your doctors say about changing your dosage?
Duncan Thanks for the tip. I started on 500 mg once a day, then it was increased to 500 mg one day then 1000 mg the next day. Now it’s 1000 mg for six days and 500 mg on the seventh. My haematocrit is going up which is the reason for the change. Plan is to stay on this dose for a month and then check levels.
I had a funny experience like this, where a simple fall took out 3 front teeth. I was moving at 25 km per hour and then suddenly I woke up with blood on my face and mouth. One week later, I was able to smile again thanks to my doctor.
Oh, @Abaziz0786 yes, life can change in a minute, make the most of each minute.
Look after yourself
