Bleeding gums, why

Brushing my teeth last night and guess who paid a visit, why does your gums decide to bleed, (decent amount). I am careful how I brush the for that reason but for no rhyme or reason. Every time I would spit it was blood. After quite a few mouthfuls of very cold water I managed to get to bed

Hi @Zambo, sorry you are experiencing bleeding gums, if this is something you have not experienced before and your healthcare team are not aware of, it’s important that you mention it to them and get their advice as soon as you can, they will hopefully be able to advise you and talk through what they may be able to do to help with this. Please feel free to contact our Support Line at any time if you want to talk things through - 0808 2080888. Best Wishes Jo

@Zambo

It’s a very common Side effect and symptom…

As Jo has recommended it’s best to notify your medical team as if you’re ontop of your dental hygiene routine and not experienced this before it maybe more likely be blood cancer related.

Hope it gets sorted

Hi @Zambo I cannot add to what @JoBloodCancerUK and @Rammie18 have said but I always find any type of bleeding so scary, it is such a bright colour and I get anxious whether it will stop or not.
Everything that happens in the evening/ night I also find scarier.
I think you dealt with it brilliantly.
Look after yourself

With regards to bleeding gums I get the same. But I do think it is to do with dental hygiene too aswell as having blood cancer. Mine bleed occasionally and its better when I look after my teeth better, I need to brush more regularly but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. My dentist has told me I have gum disease.
