Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukaemia (CMML2)

Some nice food? That’s what my treats seem to revolve around - or purchasing a useless gadget! :woman_facepalming:

How are you feeling today @ChrisCKW? Glad you only have a few days before you can find out more, I do hope you’re doing okay, sounds like you you have a lot going on!

Also just wanted to remind you that we’re only a phone call away on the support line if you want to talk anything through with the support team.

Well blood test this morning shows v low haemolobin, haematocrit and low red blood cells (which would agree with my non technical diagnosis of anaemia) and explain the dreadful tiredness and dizziness.
Also my white blood cells don’t exist (0.5) and neither do my neutrophils (0.2) so avoiding people and infection will be my priority!
However platelets have gone up from rock bottom to 48.
So looking forward to discussing with haematology consultant tomorrow!!

BUT the most amazing news - the tissue typing match on 4 of my siblings is in. The first is a full match and the other 3 are Haploidentical- and they are all still willing to be donors. So the discussion with Addenbrookes consultant on Thursday should be very positive.

I think as almost birthday news goes, that’s pretty amazing :star_struck:
Thanks all for being a huge support I truly appreciate every kind word xxxxxxx

A hiccup yesterday - temp hit 38.9 so urgent admission, urgent ABs, analgesic and fluids and heaps of tests. I’ll prob be in for a few days - I really hope to be out for my birthday/walk of light on Saturday.
Meanwhile very nice staff and room on the Macmillan Unit.

Gosh, that must have been a bit of a shock @ChrisCKW, it sounds as if you are in the right place and being looked after, take lots of care of yourself, that is the most important thing and let us know how you are getting on.

Thanks @Erica xxx
On the bright side it’s the closest thing to a holiday stay, although no sign of countryside, beach or mountains! X

Day 20 of incarceration ; word of day pancytopenic… . bloods worse than ever. Temp at least has stopped spiking. They’ve found I’m producing antibodies to platelets, so now waiting for HLA tissue matched platelets. Am colour of semi skimmed milk. Think today may need 2 units red blood and 1 of platelets - I am personally responsible for the blood bank shortage.
Staff here amazing, food pretty grim, ok for couple of days but after 3 weeks am craving fresh home cooking.
Good news - raised £1200+ for Blood Cancer UK with my non Walk of light.
Hugs and love and will log on later for Friday Jukebox x

Hi @ChrisCKW. It’s so lovely to hear from you. Wow, what an amazing amount to raise and it will make such a difference! I’m so sorry you are still in hospital, especially when you thought it would only be a few days! How are you holding up? I’m glad they have found out what’s up and have a plan. Are you likely to be in for much longer? I’m hoping you are allowed to get some food smuggled in or am I being to optimistic?

One of the issues maybe antibodies to platelets. They’ve found no sign of bacteria, fungal infection yet and are waiting to see if the full viral analysis (which are impossibly hard to get sanctioned because of Covid pressures on the lab) produces anything.
Had ct scan, spleen enlarged, echocardiogram says heart fine and chest X-rays say no lung problems. So 20 days on and still trying to determine wtf is wrong! X

That must be so frustrating for you! How are you keeping yourself occupied throughout the day? X

There’s a constant procession of nurses taking obs, taking bloods and swabs etc; a doctors round at least once a day. If I’m lonely I just start a phone call and someone will come in and want to do something!
I’m reading from kindle, also couple of Harry Potters my daughter has brought in. I have earbuds for music, and phone for music and soc media. Next to a tiny pretty courtyard so if I’m not hooked up and there’s no one out there I can now have a brief wander (I should have brought thermals ) xx

Hi @ChrisCKW I was wondering how you are getting on.
You are starting to talk in this new medical language !!!
It is a long while to be in hospital and I expect people will be thinking that you have had a good rest, but as you demonstrate it can be very tiring.
Your daughter has brought you a couple of big books to read, wouldn’t it be great to be able to make a magic potion with your magic wand to make you better.
That is a tremendous amount to raise for a Non Walk of Light, I know how much you were looking forward to it and your birthday, another year to remember.
I am so glad that you have your ear buds, kindle and mobile, life’s essentials.
Yes, you should have brought your thermals, I don’t go anywhere without my Honey Monster Onesie.
Keep posting.
