@Duncan always bringing me home
Thank you xx
Hope the antibiotics are helping @Spangleystar
Temperature spikes never nice and I know from my own experiences that clinical teams have a protocol to deal with.
Some more virtual fresh air from this morning’s walk.
I’m day 9 @2DB and my n’s are slightly increased from 0.01 to (drumroll please) 0.02
I’d love to be discharged day 11, the doc said 2 consecutive days of 0.5 is all I need, but they’ll have to make quite the leap for that to happen! Xx
I can smell the sea salt
!
@Spangleystar I come to check on you here every day. Please know how well you are wished and how proud I am of you. You’ve got this, even on the hardest days, and what an example in strength and positivity you are. Rooting for you more than you’ll ever know x
Excellent @Spangleystar
High tide just passed when I took these shots.
On your neutrophils they can sometimes take take time to recover and hopefully not too long.
I remember when I was in for intensive chemotherapy a couple of years ago after several days of being told 0 for neutrophils they actually started taking bloods every second day just in case the lack of progress got me down ![]()
Thankyou my darling @judesadventures that’s so kind. I think I’m doing ok, you know. Obviously this is a journey but I feel like I’m moving forward with the odd bear trap thrown in
today I’m on iv antibiotics painrelief fluids and potassium so not up to much - drifting in and out of sleep, which is no bad thing xx
I’m doing ok my lovely @Byrnebaby, we always knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I am being well looked after. Rest assured your decision for hospital admission is a good one. You will be so well looked after darling.
I hope you are feeling ok, since the high of the bumper crop wore off. Have you had any ramifications from the chemo priming, did it cause the hair loss you were worried about? Day 9 and I haven’t shed a hair yet, it’s quite strange because my roots feel tender but no loss yet xxx
Ohhh @Spangleystar funny you should ask! I had a very tender scalp last night, this morning I started shedding! Drying hair after shower and it was coming out on the brush and still now if I run my hands through my hair
I collected a pile on my dressing table, eyes teared up, had a moment, asked Keith to come on and take it away, breathed and thought ‘it’s only hair’
I can’t wait to start feeling some kind of pretty again! And now searching for hats, just in case it proper comes out and not just thins, so you beat me! You kept yours longer than I did
but we can grow it back, and we will upload suitable screened photos, when we are back to our glorious selves xx
. Yes, I think we both made the right decision to be admitted, it’s a hospital procedure, we need to be in hospital, they wanted me to go back and forth in a freakin’ uber! ![]()

Just had a look back and it was 15 days I went home not 11
Hopefully that’s more helpful.
Those N’s will soon boost up
Day 10 my hair was coming out in clumps. It’s starts with a tender scalp and the hairs coming out can be sore
@2DB I got the tender scalp last night, and hair has started coming out today, 17 days after cyclophosphamide ![]()
Thank you lovely @2DB. I’m ready for it to fall now because my scalp is so tender! Xx
@Byrnebaby Are you going to cut it? I’m really glad I did xx
@Spangleystar I’m hoping to hang in to as much as possible until I go in, but it depends on when that is, feels pointless spending money on a cut then having to go to a number 2 before I go in, I’m unsure about that whole thing, do we shave to the skin or leave a little hair to fall out, due to infection risk if we cut ourselves?! Anyway my legs from feet to knees are looking great, as I’ve no hair there either! ![]()
just need the rest of that to clear now ![]()
one less job x how are you feeling today lovely? Xx
When I did mine I thought I won’t go severe, I may as well see what I might look like when it starts to grow back. I definitely wouldn’t wet shave it, because it could risk ingrowing hairs if you do that too soon, as well as infection and it may only be partial hair loss at this stage?
I’m ok, on antibiotics for the staph bug I got, but should start trending up soon, so looking forward to that xxx
@Byrnebaby why not try and do yours yourself, it honestly wasn’t hard - I was the same, a totally pointless waste of money to ho to a hairdresser, for a style I don’t want. But when you do it yourself you can go gradual and see what styles may suit you in a way you’re never able to otherwise ! This may help with confidence through the regrow xxx
@Spangleystar hope your bloods start going up, up, up and you get rid of that infection and get yourself home x Yeah, I might give it a go, cutting it myself, see if it gets drastic first, I really didn’t think it would bother me
but it’s more the decision when, how short to go, and maintaining the scalp that I’m bothered about now x ohhh and what hats, caps to treat myself too!
xx Fingers crossed for you my lovely, keep being you. Xx
Hello there @Spangleystar and @Byrnebaby, I’ve been really impressed by how matter-of-factly you’ve been discussing shortening your hair and minimising risks of infection from potentially shaving.
May I just say as a naturally bald person that I’d agree that shaving our heads can risk causing nicks and grazes even when shaving super carefully. It can happen to my head even though I shave it with shaving lotion. As my blood is thinner from treatments it can take a little longer for nicks to heal these days.
A less risky option I’m sure you’ve thought about is using an electric razor made for shaving heads, there are many made by companies like Wahl or Philips which come with safety guards. They tend to be designed not to be able to nick the skin, but if you use one do still be careful around moles and ears!
For what it’s worth, I always moisturise my head and use sun lotion to keep my skin there healthy and protected, so I’m sure you’ll find your own preferred ways to avoid any risks with having shorter hair.
I happen to think short/shaved hair can be its own cool style, but appreciate it’s yet another change that these illnesses can force on you. Bet you’ll make your new dos suit you both!
Ahh more Scottish beauty @DuncanB, and so lovely and sunny up there! Wish I could jump in that little boat ![]()
