I used to crochet, about 50 yrs ago, @Liz59 I used to crochet flower squares and join them up to to make blankets etc.
I have just looked up Tunisian crochet hooks, fascinating, I await hearing your experiences, yes, happy stitching
Hi everyone,
It’s a shame I can’t change the topic from crafts to creativity! I am loving all the posts! So wonderful how we all have different expressions of creativity - I have never tried crochet as I was hopeless at knitting!
I’ve really enjoyed reading the poetry, Willow and Duncan you are both painting with words! I sympathise with you Willow, as I too rarely get outside, it’s probably why I embroider landscapes! I love looking at photo’s or watching relaxing nature videos so I can imagine I’m outdoors even if I’m not there just yet!
Thank you @ClareC I really like the idea of ‘painting with words.’ I am going to remember that! Warm wishes Willow x
I wish I was good at poetry
Im having a go at crochet starting with a penguin
Might as well go big or go home
I can add a tree pic or three I do like to take photos of nature
Thank you @2DB. What stunning photos! Thank you so much for sharing. Photography is a real gift and you certainly have it.
Here is a short poem inspired by @ClareC who said poetry is like painting with words …
PAINTING WITH WORDS
Painting with words
What a beautiful concept,
When I wish I could paint
I can use words instead.
Warm wishes, Willow x
Oh @ClareC, I think you’ve chosen just the right topic—look at this lovely range of creativity you’ve inspired! Personally I reckon crafts, arts, whatever we call it, are basic human needs and any form of expression is good for us. “Painting with words” is a special description, very humbling. I’d love to see your landscape embroidery @ClareC, but no pressure to share here. We make for ourselves, after all! It really is interesting that natural themes have emerged in our respective expressions here, almost like bringing nature therapy online
It would be lovely to see your crocheting @Liz59 and @Erica, I’m going to google what these Tunisian hooks can do… I’ve used various forms of sewing in the past as parts of sculptures, but it certainly wasn’t neat enough to create functioning craftwork like you both! Makes me wish I’d learnt more from my mum as she loved her needlework too—she taught me to knit at least
Wow @2DB it looks like you have redwoods near you too! They’re probably my favourite trees and your gorgeous photos capture them so well, all the texture of their thick spongy bark protecting their insides
Don’t they smell amazing too?! Who needs words when you have pictures—they paint a thousand words, after all!
Erican your flower square blankets sound amazing. ClareC how lovely to have embroidered landscapes. I never really took to knitting, learnt both from my mum . 2DB beautifull photographs and hope you have lots of enjoyment in crocheting your penguin. Willow another great poem. Duncan great to hear you are sculpting and learnt to knit from your mum. I have taught my daughters and now have started to teach my granddaughter who is five to crossstitch. Warm wishes. Liz59
Wow @ClareC! That is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Do you design it yourself by using photos or pictures to guide you. It’s such a peaceful scene. Warm wishes Willow x
Speaking of being painterly, how incredibly detailed your embroidery is @ClareC! Really beautiful. I love how you blended all those colours so smoothly, like brushstrokes almost
ClareC fabulous embroidery you are very talented. warm wishes. Liz 59
Oh, @ClareC I just don’t know what to say that is absolutely stunning and sort of relaxing.
Thanks so much
These are wonderful! I am a writer too, and recognise the wonders of words. I appreciate good poetry, it’s very hard to do well, the whole condensed nature of it and the necessary rhythm… the ones shared here are excellent. As well as writing (books, not poems), I like to cross stitch. Not sure how I’d manage without cross stitch projects and YouTube videos (with some of my favourite chocolate to hand). Currently still enjoying a reindeer stitch (it’s quite big and might take me some time!).
I want to step into this gorgeous scene, right now. Its so painterly and lush
Thank you so much @Leigh65 for sharing your amazing cross stitch. The detail is incredible and I like the reindeer’s antlers. I can see why it will take time to complete. Much patience required. I am really enjoying this topic. It’s so interesting to see and hear about the varied creative activities we partake in. Warm wishes Willow x
I love this @Leigh65! Very neat, I’m impressed. Reminds me of Scandinavian patterns almost, maybe even without the reindeer. I second having chocolate at hand—we need to keep our energy levels up, after all!
I’m intrigued by your writing and am now feeling nosy about you being a writer! Your writing might not be the shareable type, thinking of journalist, researcher and therapist friends, so no pressure to share of course!
@Leigh65 your cross stitch looks fabulous, hope you show us it finished. Happy stitching. warm wishes Liz59
Oh @Leigh65 your cross stitch is fabulous, the detail and I am going to pick out another area for recognition and that is the border.
Please don’t get chocolate on it, I know I would end up with sticky paws as my mother would say.
