Five years on and celebrating

Good morning
I hope this gives hope and reassurance and also I want to thank the amazing scientists, researchers and supporters for making this story possible.
Five years ago on 20 November 2019, my husband was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which we knew nothing about. This was an enormous shock and very frightening. We all know what happened globally shortly afterwards and my husband shielded for over a year, sent home by his work as it was too risky. About a year and a half ago my husband became very ill, his bloods having deteriorated significantly. He had numerous blood transfusions, had an op for an infection and looked very ill. He subsequently has received a fifteen month course of oral chemotherapy. Yesterday, five years to the day, we learned that this has been wholly successful. He is a picture of health. We have our life back. He is now back on “watch and wait” which terrified us on that first diagnosis but now is a massive relief.
I cannot express our gratitude enough. Here’s to life.

Hi @Robin a great big welcome, I also have Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and I was diagnosed 20 yrs ago, 21 yrs next week.
I was diagnosed at 53 yrs old.I reckon my emotions and thoughts have been on high alert ever since my diagnosis, I am far more emotional now. Sometimes my thoughts are logical, sometimes not. I can replay the day of my diagnosis as if it were yesterday.
I went through that Christmas as if I were in a bubble with everyone celebrating around me.
Yes, blood cancers don’t just affect the patients, I think communication is the key.
