Morning I was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) end 2022 and in watch and wait list. Numbers had increased and gp advised next increase may need to start treatment. Yet again having both the flu and COVID jabs September I have had the flu since Xmas day 24 and it is showing no signs of subsiding. Any recommendations. Been in the house and away from everyone. Taken usual paracetamol I have IBS so ibuprofen is not an option . Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thankyou
Dear @linda4
So sorry to hear that you have been feeling unwell since Christmas Day. May I ask whether you’ve screened for COVID at this point? If you have not I would suggest you do this as your are eligible for a COVID treatment assessment: Antibody and antiviral treatments for people with blood cancer | Blood Cancer UK
I would also ask whether you’ve been in touch with your haematology team as they may be able to advise you too?
Are you having any increase in your temperature with the illness that you have at the moment? If you are I would strongly recommend speaking to your GP or Haematology team as they may wish to intervene in some way.
Having a virus for many weeks is exhausting so I would recommend keeping your fluid intake up with regular paracetamol if required. Are you eating? Small amounts of food often will be beneficial as your body is working very hard to manage this virus.
You mentioned your GP commenting around your numbers increasing, I presume this means your white blood count? Your white blood count can increase when you have a virus so this needs to be taken into consideration if the bloods were taken when you were poorly? Do you have a number for your haematology team? If not don’t please ask your GP to get in touch with them as you are now on your second week of this illness and I can appreciate how exhausting that must be.
Hoping you get well soon.
Gemma
Good afternoon Gemma thankyou so much for your reply very interesting. I did do several covid tests as I was due back to work 2nd but didn’t go not due back until 9th so hopefully extra days rest will help. All tests negative and my partner negative as he has flu also. My latest reading were 7.11 then went to 7.69 and due again Feb I believe. Go did say when gets to 8 decision in what treatment but my inflammatory markers have been up at 15 for some time . I don’t have the number yet he didn’t want to worry me any more with that. Just seems to take ages to get over anything and I’m 62 now and slightly more concerned . I shall if course be in touch with them again next week if no change. The NHS is under so much pressure I do believe people have forgotten the basics hand washing staying safe etc which is such a shame. Family are all well we stayed away from everyone so just a tad depressed I think also. Plenty drinks not much appetite but not lost taste or sense of smell. Many thanks for the support really appreciate it.
Ho @linda4 I cannot better @GemmaBloodCancerUK response to you, but I just want to welcome to our forum.
It must be miserable for you and your partner having this flu for so long.
