Hi all,
I plucked up the courage to call the holiday insurance company. I took out the insurance at same time as booking holiday. They didn’t ask me to explain what MGUS is, which was a relief. No extra cost. I’m all covered. Phew, that’s a relief. One less thing to worry about.
Thank you everyone for you comments and advice.
Hi @helenfwallace . Just read your post and I don’t know if you are aware that the EHIC card is no longer valid since we left the EU. You can now get a card that is global GHIC, but strangely it is only valid in EU countries. Daft really, but you don’t want to be caught out with an invalid card when you go on your travels.
Hi @Chris1
I understood that EHIC cards were valid in the EU until their expiry date. However, I will now check this out. Thank you for pointing this out.
Best wishes
Helen
I heard it on TV from the travel expert, so as far as I know that is right, but it will pay you to check. Happy holidays.
Just had a quick read of the government pages and it seems to be that for full medical insurance for travel in Europe you need a valid EHIC or GHIC card plus travel insurance with medical cover for your pre-existing conditions. (Travel insurance policies may also require the valid EHIC or GHIC card- they used to). The EHIC and GHIC are not accepted in all EU countries.
Helen
That’s good you now know what you need to go on holiday. It is all a bit confusing since we left the EU.
Hello purdy 1966,
I was very interested in your post, as I also have a Nationwide FlexPlus Account.
However, last year, when I called them and was screened, I was told that they were unable to cover me - I have Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), and I’m on Watch & Wait, with 6 monthly blood tests. I went on to buy my insurance with StaySure.
Since reading your post again today, I thought I would call Nationwide Travel Insurance again, to see if things have changed. Unfortunately, they are still unable to cover me, such a pity. Thank you though, as it was food for thought for me.
