I was hoping we could create a mental playbook too - quotes people can turn to when they hit a low, things that just ‘make sense’ and bring inspiration, strength or comfort.
I hope you’ll join in (and anyone else not tagged please do!) of course no expectations or pressure to do so - I know everyone has their own journey and things they are going through, and always you must focus on what is right for you xx
I’ll start off:
Maya Angelou: ‘I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it’
This is lovely @Spangleystar ! such a great idea and something for everyone to look at and get an immediate lift x i am totally quote less at the moment x
A beautiful quote @Willow. Must have felt very bittersweet to have found that. It’s crazy how our tears seemed to serve as embarrassment to our parents and grandparents, thank goodness for emotional evolution xx
Oh @Spangleystar and @Byrnebaby and for me too etc, I am on a roll as I was thinking about this cleaning my bathroom.
My quotes are:
Take it a day (hour, few minutes) at a time, how important is it, it doesn’t have to be perfect, go with the flow, take it steady, just strap yourself into the rollercoaster, ask and tell your medical team, they are the experts and that’s what they are there for, slow and steady, be a patient patient, oh, and most importantly be ever so kind to yourself.
From my favorite book ever @Spangleystar, “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Dr. Viktor Frankl: “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
Best wishes to you and I highly recommend the book.
Hard to choose. However, a couple of my favourites;
"What is the bravest thing you’ve ever said? asked the boy.
‘Help,’ said the horse. ‘Asking for help isn’t giving up,’ said the horse. 'It’s refusing to give up."
"Sometimes," said the horse. “Sometimes what?” asked the boy. “Sometimes just getting up and carrying on is brave and magnificent.”
"We often wait for kindness…but being kind to yourself can start now."
A lovely thread with beautiful words from all of you X
Absolutely spot on @ProfessorJAK
The one thing I have said to everyone who has asked ‘how are you staying so together/positive/resolute/etc ?’ Is I can’t change what has happened but I can change how I feel about it.
Making that choice, consciously, has helped me in every aspect of life especially beneficial in terms of how I framed my diagnosis to my children and how well they are dealing with things, how I coped with induction treatment and stem cell transplant and how I look forward to full remission and am convinced I will achieve this.
Thanks for sharing xx
I agree with @Nichola75 Charlie Mackesy has so many wise and inspiring words in both of his books. These two quotes come from his second book ALWAYS REMEMBER.
“One day you’ll look back and realise how hard it was, and just how well you did.”
