Just Diagnosed with AML

That’s rotten news @TimE . I hope this all gets resolved for you as soon as possible. It’s anxious enough waiting for a stem cell transplant without added complications. I seem to remember that i failed all of the pre transplant tests but they ignored this and went ahead anyway…

Good luck @Fifimac.
I had my transplant at QEUH in April 2022. You will be looked after very well.
Take it a day at a time and be prepared to be hooked up to drugs etc for long periods of time, that was a surprise to me!
Thinking of you x

Hi @Suey

Thank you for the wee bits of info. This is my 2nd day in the ward.
So far I have been hooked up for Potassium and today is my first dose of Chemo and also require blood. To be honest , I’m in the room so not exactly spoiling a shopping trip , lol.

The staff have all been nothing but helpful.

Glad to hear you are home and getting on ok , I hope you continue to go from strength to strength, my transplant will be 12th July.

I will try to keep everyone updated. Fingers x’d I can get through this relatively unscathed :crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2: then out the other side.

Thanks again :kissing_heart: x x

Hi @Fifimac

I’m OK thanks. I am having a scan of my kidneys on Friday and a follow appointment with the Renal consultant will follow, date to be confirmed.
My transplant will be back on if & when my kidneys function improve. This weeks blood test the egfr score was 56 which is really good for me normally down in the low 40’s just need this to hold here or above.

Hope all is going as well as can be expected with your treatment, take care.

My thoughts are with you

Continuing the discussion from Just Diagnosed with AML:

Hi so sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. I can see you have had many responses . I had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia July 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2007.I also had a bone marrow transplant in December 2007. At times it was easy sometimes it was tough but I am still here and you wouldn’t guess to look at me what I have been through. I guess what I am trying to say is you’ll have lots going on for the majority of the year but you can get back to a normal life. Being told you have cancer is devastating but stay strong, laugh and believe and trust in the haematology team and nurses and you’ll ok . If you ever need any advice I’ll be happy to help. Best wishes. Rose xx
