Long periods

Hi everyone. Did anyone experience long periods as one of their symptoms before being diagnosed?
I take the contraceptive pill and my periods are always very regular. However, I have been breakthrough bleeding while still taking my pill for nearly a month now which is not like me at all. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Hi @aloharj,
Thank you so much for taking time to post your questions. How have you been doing? Iā€™m sorry to hear that you have been bleeding more.

Would i be correct in thinking you have not yet been diagnosed with a blood cancer and still awaiting scan results?

Prolonged breakthrough bleeding is certainly something we would want you to raise with your GP and or if you have a contact for the haematology team?

Breakthrough bleeding can of course be caused by many different reasons including infections. Therefore we would encourage you to seek advice from your medical team.

During the time you are experiencing this, it can also be helpful to keep a diary of how frequently this is happening so you can accurately relay to them.

Should you prefer to talk anything through please know our helpline is very much here for you 7 days Aloharj- 0808 2080 888.

Take Care, Lauran

Hi @aloharj a really interesting questions.
I did have irregular periods prior to diagnosis, but this coincided with the natural start of my menopause.
