Masks, Social Distancing etc - How are we all feeling about total lifting of restictions?

So well said @Hopefulness, and I hope you are recovering. I just wonder how many people this rash 19th so called ‘Freedom Day’ decision making affects. We are of course at greater risk having blood cancers and lack of immunity from the vaccine but there must be thousands of people in this country with compromised immune systems for various reasons, this will be ‘Encaceration Day’ for the majority of people in this position.

I commend all the people speaking on our behalf but we are seldom mentioned and just generally being ignored. I almost feel like we are all in a hideous survival of the fittest experiment run by a group of mad men. I’ve even started to think that Boris might be wringing his hands thinking a few less state pensions will need to be paid out…

I appreciate that things have to move on but surely as already discussed masks in some public places isn’t too much to ask is it? I just dont understand why anyone in their right mind wouldn’t keep basic safety measures in place when Covid 19 is rising and able to mutate at such an alarming rate. Not enough young people have been vaccinated yet, schools are going to become Covid transmission hotbeds, putting so many CEV parents and teachers at physical risk, let alone the mental health toll on us all.

New Zealand dont want to ‘live with the disease’ and are not going to let UK citizens into their country, why don’t we have the same protection and life saving compassion in the UK.
Boris may be the awkward man with the funny hair but he’s a very dangerous man. Anyone that says ‘Let the Bodies Pile High’ shouldn’t be making decisions on our behalf.

Sorry to rant but everyone’s life is so precious and we as a community have so much adversity to deal with, we deserve a break and consideration to live our lives not in fear and not hidden away…

If you go to the CLL website they are challenging the government on removing restrictions and they are urging people to write to their MP. They provide an excellent template for you to copy.

You can write to your MP, I have.

I’m incredibly nervous… I wrote to my no Simon Clarke Mp…had absolutely no reply at all. I’m.not politically motivated but this government are dreadful. …they are an absolute joke and are insulting the Nhs…carers and those who’ve lost someone to covid or are suffering because they have long covid.
I’m still waiting to hear if I can have my 2nd vaccine changed to the Pfizer one .
Every thing hit home mind at as my friend who has been looking after me since my anyeurism in March…her son was sent home from.school …has to isolate as he’s been in contact with someone who has tested positive for c9vid…luckily she self tests nearly every day . They all tested negative…3vdays later still negative… did a test myself… negative just to have be safe…
It’s like I have to baton down the hatches again and I’m.scared…must admit…
Took.my mum out in the car today…first time since January and felt normal… it’s good to be driving.
.it was only a dental appt…but felt safe…
Think my gardens going to be my haven again…
Stay safe everyone and thank you

Wow @Hmc63 doesn’t it hit home, a yukky feeling in the stomach for me, when someone that is close to you or you know of or have heard of gets Covid, that vulnerability, anxiety and fear sets in and your friend has been doing so much for you too.
Yes, you describe it so well by ‘baton down the hatches’.
Gosh the first time driving, it must have felt odd, I haven’t even been in a car for about 17 mths.
You have done so brilliantly over the last few months.
Let us know about having your second vaccine and if you can have the Pizer one this time.
Your garden being your safe haven sounds good to me.
Take care and keep posting.

Hi @Hmc63 , @Lally ,@Erica
Just had a response from my MP, can’t say that it fills me with hope for the future but I will share some of the contents. Don’t worry about the rest as you will probably receive the exact same letter too. Clearly the standard reply they send to anyone concerned about the restrictions lifting on the 19th.

It told me how wonderful the vaccine roll out was and that 9 in 10 people in the UK now had antibodies to fight Covid. Didn’t mention the 1 in 10 that don’t, that would probably be us then…oh, and surprisingly urged me to book my vaccination, after my letter did mention that vaccines are significantly less effective for people with blood cancer. I agree that the vaccine rollout has been a wonderful thing and I’m grateful to the many volunteers that have made this happen but I think the MP may have missed the point or doesn’t give a :duck:

He did say that to enforce any existing rules and mask wearing etc. would be detrimental to the economy and health. I understand that the economy needs to open up but a few masks in public places wouldn’t have hurt anyone and would probably reduce the pressure on the NHS and save lives. We all know that mask wearing stopped flu and viruses last year. Thank goodness the Mayor of London has common sense and has made mask wearing a condition of using public transport there. Can’t see that happening where I am, so my son can get on the bus to college and bring Covid home to me, just after my stem cell transplant in August. Maybe I should ask Richard Branson if I could live on his Covid free Island for the 6 month recovery period…do you fancy that @ChrisCKW ?

Step 4 in the Government roadmap apparently removes all rules and regulations regarding Covid and shifts the responsibility to individuals to protect themselves. I don’t mind continuing to wear a mask but when I’m in the queue at Asda and the person next to me is akin to ‘Slimer’ in the Ghost Busters and likes to share their coughing and sneezing with me, so close that I can see the mucus splatter, I don’t think my little cloth mask will be of much use.

Anyway the letter did finish on the uplifting note that Covid cases will rise as will deaths over the coming months, that’s all right then…?

Hi @Lyn99, well at least you got a reply !!!
Richard Branson’s Covid free island sounds like idyllic convalescence and recovery, I presume this would free of charge with his staff, catering and the flights thrown in.
Perhaps your medical teams could come as well as a thank you.
I think a trip in his rocket or hot air balloon might be a bit much to ask, but you could try.
If you would like someone to carry your suitcases I would be happy to oblige, I can see it all so clearly in my mind, the sandy beaches and clear blue sea, aaahhhh.

I’m with you @Lyn99 as long as I don’t have to meet Branson! Xxxx

It has started! Went to post office this morning… early as was trying to avoid the crowds… yeah no! The post office queue was long, less than the half had masks on and no social distancing! I kept my distance from two guys front of me without masks but couldn’t do so with the people behind me. I had my Blood Cancer badge on and the guy front of me saw it but clearly didn’t have any effect!
My work has left all the decisions to me to keep myself safe and I’m emotionally exhausted! Happy freedom weekend folks! Let’s be honest it’s here today not on Monday especially with this lovely weather :mask::mask::mask:

The thing is that some people will continue to wear masks and keep their distance and some will not problem which group do you think are mostly likely to have put themselves in a position to catch Covid? Yup it is the non mask wearing I’m alright Jack/ Covid is all a con to control people /I,m young and young don’t get ill with Covid/it’s no worse than flu except for all these people with underlying conditions who would die soon anyway / i have had one /two vaccinations and cannot catch it or pass it on etc etc brigade. By the way apart from I,m alright Jack which attitude I deduced the comments all come from my students forums

I’ve already seen widespread non mask wearing so I’m not expecting the majority of people to wear them from tomorrow when they’ve been told that they don’t have to by the government. Whilst you are still supposed to wear masks on public transport in London, there’s no one to enforce it in spite of all of the announcements on the buses. My university have said that they will continue to ask students to wear masks, but again given that government told them they don’t have to, who are they most likely to listen to?

Hi @Franko, it is a real worry for all of us but I’m heartened that your Uni is doing the right thing. My husband’s company have said the same. There are some sensible people out there that aren’t brainwashed by the crazy Government ideas.
Just hope that there are enough of them out there! See below the latest view of other countries on the UK lunacy.

Plan to lift majority of restrictions in England is a threat to the world, say scientists and health leaders

More than 1200 scientists have now backed a letter in the journal The Lancet saying that the UK’s plan to lift most coronavirus restrictions in England , poses a serious threat to the rest of the world. The letter argues that lifting restrictions at a time when infection rates are rising could increase the chance of new vaccine-resistant coronavirus variants emerging. “Because of our position as a global travel hub, any variant that becomes dominant in the UK will likely spread to the rest of the globe,” Christina Pagel at University College London said during an emergency summit of scientists and doctors on 16 July.

Public health leaders from around the world joined in the criticism of the UK’s plan. “In New Zealand we have always looked to the UK for leadership when it comes to scientific expertise, which is why it’s so remarkable that it is not following even basic public health principles,” said Michael Baker at the University of Otago, a member of the New Zealand health ministry’s covid-19 technical advisory group. José Martin-Moreno at the University of Valencia, a senior adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO), said: “We cannot understand why this is happening in spite of the scientific knowledge that you have.”

Just had an email from Tescos saying that after requests from customers and staff they are requesting that masks are worn in their shops and people respect social distance. Do I sense a rebellion by the sensible?

@Lyn99, I sense you might be right !!!

I hope that you are right too, but remember the sensible were never a threat in the first place the legisaltion was there to enforce the wearing of masks on the non sensible and they will be able to say to Tesco etc the Gov says I don’t have to and I’m not going to and then what? nothing. You are not safe becasue 70% of people in the supermarket are wearing masks if you are unlucky enough to stand near one of the 30% who is infectious, personally I think the ending of social distancing is as dangerous for us as the lack of masks. Good for Tescos but M & S have sadi they wont ask for masks and in my local shop the owner says he’s not prepared to try and ask for masks after the abuse he’s already had when he asks people to put a mask on. Be careful look out for yourself esp as many people wont want to wear masks in this heat.
