Missed medication?!

Hi All
I am an Essential thrombocythemia (ET) Jak 2 blood cancer patient my treatment is aspirin and Hydroxycarbamide
I take the Hydroxy. on alternate days end today because of various disruptions I can not honestly recall whether I’ve taken it or not!
Should I take it just in case? Or wait 24 hours and take it tomorrow?
Anyone been in this predicament happy to hear from you.
Thank you
Lelly.

Hi @Lelly good to hear from you again and a very good question.
I suggest you ring your haematology ward/department at your hospital and ask them.
The ward is working 24/7.
Alternatively you might consider ringing 111
Please do let us know how you get on and look after yourself

Hey there @Lelly, fellow Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) survivor! I take the same medicines as you daily and was asked the other day by my new haematologist if I’ve ever forgotten a hydroxyurea dose, and couldn’t remember! He said it shouldn’t be an issue as a one-off but not to get into the habit.

Probably wise not to double-up a dose accidentally. As you take yours every other day the frequency doesn’t seem as imperative as people taking it daily or multiple times per day, but always check this stuff with the experts, and like @Erica says your haematology folks should be able to reassure you if you call them.

Hi Duncan
Thank you
I have just called the Haematology ward and spoken to the night staff they advise not to take it tonight and contact my consultant tomorrow morning for his advice.
Will be lucky if he is there but :crossed_fingers:
Hope you are doing ok and life is kind to you.
Thanks again
Lelly.

Hello again Erica
As I just replied to @Duncan I contacted the haematology ward and was advised to forget tonight’s dose and speak to the consultant tomorrow morning…
I will try to get hold of him and see what his advice might be.
Thank you for your advice
Kind regards
Lelly

Ah excellent, that was fast work! In these moments where we might feel like we’re wasting our doctor’s time, remind yourself that you have a rare disorder and it’s good to check these things just in case and that’s it self-care to be pro-active.

I am doing okay, thank you for asking. Looking forward to more springtime sunlight and all the new growth springing forth!
