Raising platelets should i be worried

Hi @Knighthannah321 I am so glad that you have found our forum.
I am not able to tell you anything about your medical results, that is for a medical person, but the redoing of blood tests after an interval is not unusual in my experience. It is called active monitoring (or watch and wait).
I, plus some others on this site, find this waiting and not knowing quite an emotional upheaval before, during and after and I have been on active monitoring or watch and wait for 17 yrs.
During your waiting time it might be worth writing down all your fears, thoughts, feelings, symptoms, questions and practicalities so you ask everything you need to at your next consultation. Also ask that follow up questions too. I have learnt how to be pleasantly more assertive over the years. A consultation is a two way process.
Have you got any support from family and friends?
Your worry, fears and anxiety must be exhausting so the important thing is that you are really kind to yourself and look after yourself.
We are here to support you and the Blood Cancer UK support line details are above.
Please let us know how you get on.

Hi @Knighthannah321.
As @Erica said, we all understand the anxiety of waiting for results and I know the temptation of google search. I’ve learnt that it’s much better to stick to websites such as this.
I can’t offer much more advice than Erica has given. The support line is great so if you feel that you can, give them a call.
Please keep us updated on how you get on.
Take care

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for all the support on here. You are all so lovely and kind! Having the information you all gave really helped me understand what was going on. I know dr Google is not the right way but im so glad i found this forum.
I seen my heamotolgist who advised that the marrow test and other tests they done came back negative.
He said that i have mild thrombocytosis and my highest platelet being 490 and lowest 440. He is not concerned and advised treatment is not required.
I have to get bloods taken every 6 months to keep an eye on things.
Thank you all again for all the love and support and making me feel so welcome. Xx

@Neelia_38 You appear to now be on what we 'watch and wait or ‘active monitoring’.
Still after many years I still get anxious before, during and after all medical appointments and tests.
Please take care of yourself and spoil yourself.

Hello, I hope you dont mind me giving you an update. Ive been getting monitored since my last post and platelets have been rising since (not massively but still higher). I got a bone marrow biopsy and was told that id probably be discharged after results as they werent expecting anything abnormal. My specialist called to advise that ive been tested for MPN and my results are ok but still not perfect so keeping a eye on me, ive to go back in May. Ive been checked for any underlying conditions but all clear. Its such an uncertain time and i wished id asked more questions. I will be more prepared for my next visit. Nothing has been mentioned about being on watch and wait .Hope you are all keeping well and thanks for support xxx

Hello Neelia_38 thanks for giving us an update and I am glad the consultant is keeping an eye on you - and also good that all your tests have come back negative, although I can appreciate that is frustrating for you but in essence good that there are no signs of any underlying condition - wise for the consultant to keep a check on you - blood counts are “funny old things” as there is no set standard of what’s normal and counts a bit higher than the average may well be just what’s normal for you - but a check now and then by your consultant just keeps an eye and check so if any upward trend happens they can check further - sounds like you are in good hands - keep us posted

Hi @Neelia_38 thanks so much for the update, which sounds positive but perhaps we all like a reason, it’s the not knowing which is so hard for me.
Glad you will be monitored in May.
The words ‘watch and wait’ and ‘active monitoring’ were never used with me either, but I suppose they are not medical terms, but that is what we are on.
Perhaps now you have time to get that list of questions ready.
Take lots of care and please keep us updated.

Hello Erica,
Thank you so much for checking in on me.
The last time i went they said that my bone marrow results were patchy and couldn’t rule out MPN.

They took my bloods this time and they were the lowest they have been in years so after looking at all the other results he has decided to discharge me from heomotolgy. He says that there are loads of young women in a similar situation to me where platelets are high but no reason.

I feel so silly for worrying and had convinced myself something was Really wrong. My GP will continue to check every 6 months and hoping it stays the same.

I hope you are well and thanks again for all your support on here Xx
