Thank you so much! Best of luck to you too, keep us updated! I know how difficult it is as I have days where I find myself feeling really anxious, wondering what’s going on in my body and ruminating about “what ifs” - I know the best thing for us is to just take care of ourselves and to stay positive because us worrying won’t change anything (although I know it’s definitely a lot easier said than done) and stress is definitely up there with one of the worst things for our bodies! Speak soon x
It really has been and I completely agree - I am so grateful to have come across this page and to have received so much support! X
Thanks @Mdm2020 for your insight and wisdom I learn so much from you, so please keep posting.
Hi guys, just thought I’d give you all an update! I had my first haematology consultation over the phone today, fortunately all of my cells are still the same but my neutrophils remain low and are at 1. The doctor said there are no signs of leukaemia in my blood and she feels I might have autoimmune neutropenia (so fingers crossed)! Next steps are more blood tests and then possibly a bone marrow biopsy! Xx
Hi @Mdm2020
Thanks for the update. That’s great news that there are no signs of leukaemia cells in you blood and I know you’ll be very relieved. Hopefully you’re haematologist will be able to determine what is causing your low neutrophil count and come up with a strategy to address the issue. Just take time for yourself and try and take things easy. Blood Cancer U.K. have a great booklet on eating well with neutropenia which I have found invaluable. Here is the link to it so you can check it out for yourself:
Also remember we’re all here on the forum if there anything you want to discuss.
Take care and stay safe.
All the best,
Peter
Oh, thanks @Mdm2020 gosh you must be relieved that you do not have any signs of leukaemia. @Dyslexicprof has given you useful information.
Let’s hope you can celebrate and take some time to look after yourself. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you Peter, that’s great - I will definitely have a look at that and try it out! I appreciate that and I’m always here if yourself or anyone else needs a chat too. I hope you’re well too? Take care! X
I really am! Thank you for your support Erica. I hope you’re doing well? Take care! X
Thanks @Mdm2020
That’s great. I had another short spell
In hospital a couple of weeks ago but doing much better now bar some fatigue issues.
Have a good weekend. It looks like it’s going to be sunny.
All the best, Peter
That’s good news. Keep us updated and take care of yourself X
I’m sorry to hear that Peter - I’m glad you’re feeling better now though and that your stay was short. The weather has been lovely today, I think we’re all ready for the summer now - I hope you make the most of it too! I hope your fatigue settles and you feel back to normal very soon - all the best!
Morgan x
Thank you very much, I will - you too! Take care x
Hi Morgan
We had lovely weather too and I managed to get out for a walk with my dog for the first time in nearly three weeks. It was great getting out again but I was very tired after. All in all good progress though. I hope you’re having a good weekend.
All the best.
Peter
Hi @Mdm2020!
So sorry for such a late reply, I got totally snowed under with my university work (though, thankfully my dissertation is done now!) and the days all seem to roll into one and zoom past at the moment.
I’m so glad the appointment went well, and what a relief about the results! It’s great to hear that your doctor seems to be so on the ball and keen to get things sorted, I really hope these new tests help uncover what’s going on!
All the best!
Oops, it’s me again, just wondering if I might be able to get some advice…
Recently, my night sweats have gotten a lot worse, resulting in me waking up pretty much drenched I wasn’t too concerned as my next haematology appointment was meant to be in April, so I was just going to discuss it with my consultant then.
I’d spoken to one of my GP’s briefly about it last week, but they didn’t want to comment/advise on it seeing as it’s probably to do with my funky blood test results, which was totally fine. Except today, I got a letter saying they’ve had to cancel my haematology appointment and could only reschedule it for July!
I’m of course not asking anybody here for medical advice, but was wondering if anyone had experiences dealing with symptoms whilst waiting for an appointment? Is it worth phoning my GP up and asking them again, seeing as I now have a much longer wait? I’m not sure if they’d be able to contact the haematology department themselves to confer over it, but these night sweats are really messing my sleep up and making me feel really quite unwell and I’d at least like to get some proper advice on it before July…
Sorry for the long, rambling post! I hope everybody here is doing well and staying as safe and happy as anyone can given the circumstances!
Hi @plutoeli, I have had several rescheduled appointments recently, some just a couple of weeks, but I had an appointment moved by 6 mths, so I promptly burst into tears, then I dusted myself down and put my brave pants on and I rang the hospital department (the number was on the letter or it might be on the hospital’s website) and I was ever so nice but explained that a symptom had changed and my GP has said it is best dealt with by my consultant and the lady went away and came back and I was given a nearer appointment. Now this might just be a phone appointment but it is worth a try, night sweats and lack of sleep are miserable. You have nothing to lose.
Let us know how things go please.
Hi @Erica ,
I’m so sorry to hear about you having so many appointments rescheduled! It’s frustrating at the best of times, no matter how soon they are, but 6 months is shocking! It’s brilliant that you were able to chase it up, though; I think advocating for one’s medical care is difficult under normal circumstances, let alone during a pandemic when most appointments are phone/video calls.
Thank you ever so much for your encouragement; I think I’ll try and get a GP phone appointment tomorrow and explain, and then go from there. You’re totally right, I’ve got nothing to loose, so it’s worth a shot!
Hi Eli,
Are the night sweats every night? I’ve had night sweats a few times a week but it’s never been consistent for weeks - remember it could be anything, maybe your body is trying to sweat out a bug? Maybe it’s a new medication? The university stress?
That is a shame to hear your appointment has been delayed, I’m sorry to hear that. It’s difficult having to wait for these appointments. I think contacting your GP and seeing if they can bring it forward is worth doing, I know I would but that’s me - it’s worth a try and you want to figure out what’s going on! Definitely express your concerns to your GP, listen to your body and think about your mental and physical wellbeing. You’ve been so patient! X
Hi @plutoeli. I completely agree with @Erica No harm in giving it a go, especially if it’s playing on your mind. Let us know how you get on
Hi @Mdm2020,
Yes, they are pretty much every night now. They used to be more manageable as it was only once or twice a week that I was properly drenched, but now it happens more times than not, hence my anxiety - but you’re totally right, it could be for any number of reasons. I’ve always been prone to catching any bugs going around, so maybe I’ve just come down with some sort of cold!
Thank you for your reassurance! I of course understand that all hospitals are totally swamped at the moment, and so I’m not angry at them or anything, but it would be very reassuring to simply talk about these new/worsening symptoms with some sort of medical professional. Even if they can’t really do anything, some tips or advice on how to navigate with these night sweats would be so helpful! I have an out of hours GP phone appointment booked for this weekend, so fingers crossed I’m able to get some advice.
Thank you ever so much for your kindness!
