Hi everyone
I just thought I’d check in and update you on my journey with Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)/bone marrow transplant. I was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) May 2018 lots of chemo,/remission/then relapse 2019 followed by transplant May 2019. Fast forward to 2024 when my neutrophil count started to drop, in November 2024 a bone marrow biopsy showed I had relapsed with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Still in remission for Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) but chimerism was down to around 30%. My donor was contacted and I have had 3 donor lymphocyte infusions first one in February 2025,last one end of July.Throughout the year I have felt fine apart from a few infections/virusses.Neutrophils stubbornly around 1. My chimerism also has stubbornly hovered around the 30%. After the 3rd infusion my liver alt levels rose to 11 times the normal ( still feeling fine) graft verses host disease was confirmed . I was put on high dose steroids and liver function is now normal again and we are tapering steroids. I was beginning to fear the worst when a phone call last Wednesday said the latest biopsy shows chimerism is back to 100% and no evidence of disease!! Once again the doctors, nurses, scientists and my amazing donor have worked their magic !
