Blood stem cell Transplant

I was diagnosed with Mylodiplasia back in May of this year and have blood transfusions every 2 weeks my Hematoligist has suggested that I have a stem cell transplant as the injections i have been taking are not working
I am a 62 year old male and she says that because of my age it would be the best plan my daughter has tested an almost exact match so i have a doner
I was sent to see a consultant andn the picture painted by her was totaly different she told me there was a 25 to 30 per cent chance of success but if i did nothing my life expectancy would be two and a half to three years!
I am confused as which way to go .
I know that with any proceedure comes risk but just wonder do they exagerate the risks?
my mind tells me that even with those figures i need to go ahead

Oh @Davefc I am so glad that you have found us and posted on here.
I am not surprised that you are feeling confused, to say the least, what a dilemma you have.
Yes, obviously I think consultants do need to cover all eventualities, if that is the right word.
I have just read the possible side effects of some painkillers I am about to take and it says could cause constipation or diarrhea.
Obviously ultimately it has to be your decision, to be made when it feels right for you.
Some people do a pros and cons list.
I attach the Blood Cancer UK details on treatment options

The Blood Cancer UK support line is there for you on 0808 2080 888 too.
I hope others will share their experiences for you.
Look after yourself and please do keep posting how you are getting on.

Dear @Davefc,
Welcome to the forum, I am glad you have felt able to come and share your worries.
It sounds like you have had some mixed messages, when is your next appointment? I think it would be a good idea to have some further discussions around this and clarify what has been said. To be able to make an informed choice you need to have all the information as clear as possible and this is a big decision to make.
If we can help by talking things through with you we would be very happy to do this, our number is 0808 2080 888.
Best Wishes,
Heidi J (Support Services Nurse)
